Mormon Wives’ Mikayla Matthews “Barely Surviving” Amid Chronic Illness

Mikayla Matthews is giving new insight into her health battle.

Reality TV star Ashley Terry, known from Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, recently revealed she has chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS). She described the challenges of raising her four children, including baby Lottie June who was born in July, while battling the illness for several years. She and her estranged husband, Jace Terry, are the parents of Lottie June.

Mikayla shared on Instagram on March 18th that she’s been struggling to cope with a long-term illness. She explained that it’s been incredibly difficult, and for the past two years, it’s prevented her from being the mother she wants to be. She expressed a simple desire: to feel like herself again.

I was really struck by what she shared about what’s causing her health issues. She explained it’s triggered by being exposed to toxins for a long time, things like mold. It’s so heartbreaking to hear, and I’m sending her all my support as she navigates this.

She explained that this health issue had taken over her life. For about a year and a half, she struggled to make eye contact with people, fearing they would notice her skin if she did. She’s still learning to overcome this challenge.

Even though Mikayla believes CIRS has severely damaged her health, affecting everything from her nerves and skin to her brain, liver, and hormones, she wants to use her experience to motivate others.

She explained that she’s missed out on a lot of exciting events and opportunities because of her skin condition. However, she still makes an effort to be present whenever possible, wanting others facing similar challenges to know they’re not alone and that difficult times don’t have to hold them back from living their lives.

I’ve learned from someone I really admire that there isn’t a single magic answer for everyone, but there’s one thing that truly matters: making time for yourself. She really emphasized not letting go of the things you enjoy, those hobbies and passions that are just for you. It’s so easy to get caught up in everything else, but remembering to nurture yourself is key.

Mikayla ended her speech with a heartfelt tribute, saying, “Moms are my heroes. You’re all doing a wonderful job, and your kids are so fortunate to have you.”
