Mr Bates vs The Post Office legend confirmed to be joining award-winning BBC comedy

The BBC comedy series Smoggie Queens is returning for a second season after winning two awards at the RTS North East & Borders Awards in 2024. This time around, some well-known actors will be joining the cast.

New photos offer a first glimpse of season two of the Middlesbrough-based show, coming to BBC Three and BBC iPlayer this spring. The images feature both familiar faces and new characters.

Season two will welcome new cast members Monica Dolan, known for her role in Mr Bates vs The Post Office, as well as Amalia Vitale and Freya Parker.

Jeff Stelling and Chris Kamara, popular sports broadcasters, are also joining the show, and appear with returning host Steph McGovern in a newly released photo.

Season 2 will bring back many familiar faces, including the show’s creator, Phil Dunning, and actors Mark Benton, Alexandra Mardell, Patsy Lowe, Elijah Young, Neil Grainger, Charlotte Riley, Peter McPherson, Lauryn Redding, Michael Mather, Bill Fellows, and Michelle Visage.

The show centers around a diverse group of LGBTQ+ friends. They include Dickie, who’s known for his unpredictable behavior, the fabulous drag queen Mam, the confident Lucinda, the shy Sal, and Stewart, who is just beginning to explore his identity.

Season two continues the story right after the events in Middlesbrough, following the group as they deal with relationships, friendships, and a lot of unexpected twists and turns.

Dickie is looking for love, while Mam is dealing with difficult memories resurfacing in her hometown. Sal is caught between two potential partners, Danni and Mel, and Lucinda is experiencing problems in her relationship with Neil. Meanwhile, Stewart is happily starting a new phase of his life.

Expect the unexpected with Smoggie Queens! Each episode is packed with surprises, from romantic dates and debut parties to a male beauty pageant and even a football game. Just like drag itself, the show always delivers something new and exciting.
