My Adventures With Superman Showrunners Talk Season 4, Green Lantern, & Beyond (Exclusive)

Fans of Adult Swim’s My Adventures With Superman can look forward to the show’s third season premiering on June 14th, and Clark Kent won’t be facing challenges alone. The creators have revealed they plan to adapt some of the most famous Superman stories, including The Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen. Recently, the team at egmr.ru spoke with showrunners Brendan Clougher and Jake Wyatt about what’s next for the series and its upcoming spin-off.

During conversations about the upcoming third season, Clougher playfully suggested they’re aiming for two more seasons and a movie. They actually pitched a potential fourth season alongside season three to the studio, hoping to be prepared if it’s renewed. There’s plenty of source material for the show to continue far beyond that, if they’re given the chance. While avoiding spoilers, season three clearly shows the creators are setting up a major storyline. They also hinted that another DC hero is getting a fresh take, alongside the ongoing stories of Clark, Lois, Jimmy, and Kara, but left details for viewers to discover.

In Brightest Day

While most of our discussion with Wyatt and Clougher was centered on Metropolis, we couldn’t help but take the conversation to the planet Oa, asking the pair about the progress on My Adventures With Green Lantern. While the pair did go into some major detail when it came to My Adventures With Superman, they were a bit dodgy when it came to further breakdowns for the animated series that will follow Jessica Cruz. Luckily, they did have good news for fans on the Emerald Knights front.

“Chugging along.” Clougher stated when asked about the current state of the spin-off’s development, “We’re shipping episodes, and we’re having a good time. We sure are making it!” For those who might not recall, My Adventures With Superman has already introduced fans to a Green Lantern, though it was far from human. Instead, while Clark was aboard Braniac’s ship, he fought against an unnamed alien who was wearing a power ring, making it quite the challenge for Superman to face. Jessica Cruz has been a Green Lantern in the comics for years, though she has yet to appear in this Adult Swim series that remakes the DCU.

During our conversation, the showrunners subtly suggested they’re considering stories set in Gotham City and featuring Batman. Wyatt mentioned Brendan has a compelling vision for the character, which could be explored in a single episode or even a whole series, but Batman’s schedule is currently full. They’re focused on Superman and his family for now, but are open to expanding the universe and exploring other heroes within this animated world. The fact that they’re introducing the Green Lanterns demonstrates Adult Swim’s belief in the potential of this new “Adventure-verse,” even though no other DC heroes have been officially confirmed yet.

I’m so excited for the third season of My Adventures With Superman! It kicks off on Adult Swim on June 13th, and then the episodes will be available to stream on HBO Max the very next day. If you prefer watching weekly, you can catch them on Cartoon Network after the premiere!
