My Dress-Up Darling Stars Talk Fan Hopes for Season 2 (Exclusive)

The beloved anime “My Dress-Up Darling” is now showing its Season 2 during the Summer 2025 anime lineup. The talented voice actors behind this popular show have recently shared their insights on fan expectations for the upcoming episodes. This anime adaptation of Shinichi Fukuda’s “My Dress-Up Darling” manga was launched in 2022, and quickly gained a massive following due to the captivating bond between its main characters, Marin Kitagawa and Wakana Gojo. Now that we are airing season 2 after some time has passed, fans have certain desires for how they’d like these characters to develop further in the new episodes.

Hina Suguta and Shoya Ishige, who voice Marin Kitagawa and Wakana Gojo respectively in My Dress-Up Darling, spoke with ComicBook at Anime Expo 2025 earlier this month. They expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming season, which marks three years since the first season premiered. Both actors admitted to feeling a bit nervous about fan reception of the new episodes, but overall they were eagerly anticipating the full debut of the new season.

My Dress-Up Darling Stars Tease Fan Reaction to Season 2

Initially, Suguta expressed that after everyone’s three-year long wait, there might be high expectations, which he admitted made him a bit anxious, yet hopeful that we can live up to them. Similarly, Ishige echoed this feeling, acknowledging the lengthy gap between seasons and expressing some apprehension, but also sharing that Japanese fans have been delighted with the recent airing. They both expressed hope that the rest of the world will feel the same.

Prior to working on ‘My Dress-Up Darling’, Suguta admitted he had never cosplayed. Interestingly, at the same time as the previous season was launched, there was a YouTube video showing Ishige-san creating a costume for him. This was his first time cosplaying, and it made him feel deeply connected to the title. It was a delightful experience for him. As for ‘My Dress-Up Darling’, Ishige had some familiarity with the culture beforehand, but after working on the anime, he gained an even greater appreciation for the craft.

Gojo Star Sees Cosplay in a New Way

Initially, I hadn’t dabbled in cosplay culture myself. However, once I embarked on “My Dress-Up Darling”, I found myself immersed in it. Working on Suguta’s costume was a learning curve for me. Through my role as Gojo, I’ve not only broadened my understanding of cosplay but also had the unique opportunity to create a costume for one of my co-workers – something I would have never anticipated doing before.

After finishing work on the series and creating his own costume, Ishige gained an even greater admiration for cosplayers. “I’ve met many cosplayers,” he said, “Some use store-bought items, but a large number of them also put a great deal of time, effort, love, and care into making their costumes by hand. Realizing the true extent of the hard work involved was truly humbling. I now hold cosplayers in the highest regard.
