Kohei Horikoshi’s popular manga series, My Hero Academia, finished its run last year after ten years, and the anime adaptation is also coming to an end soon. The anime first aired in 2016, two years after the manga started, and quickly gained a large following with each new season and movie. After years of following Izuku Midoriya’s story, fans are preparing for a heartfelt goodbye. The anime’s final season began airing in October as part of the Fall 2025 lineup, and continues to impress viewers with its stunning animation as the climactic battle against All For One intensifies.
The current arc, known as the Final Act Saga, is the most intense and extensive storyline so far, beginning with the Dark Hero Arc in Season 6. The anime is approaching its conclusion, likely wrapping up the main story in Episode 11 of this season. Although the core narrative is almost finished, there’s potential for future expansion, a sentiment shared by Shoto Todoroki’s voice actor, David Matranga.
David Matranga Believes My Hero Academia Can Expand the Story Through Films and Series
I was so excited to hear what Kyle Matranga had to say at Anime Pasadena this year! He really thinks there’s a ton of potential for more My Hero Academia content, and I totally agree. When asked about a final movie, he said he doesn’t just think one would work, but that there’s room for several! He believes Kohei Horikoshi has built such an amazing world with these characters that there are endless stories still waiting to be told. He even suggested they could take a little break and then come back with a new manga, a sequel series, or even some cool spinoffs. It’s awesome to hear that there’s so much more My Hero Academia potentially on the way!
He also suggested exploring character development through shorter, focused stories. He envisioned a six-episode series dedicated to individual characters, something not commonly seen in anime, but which he believes would work really well for My Hero. He feels the characters are rich enough to support many more stories and that the world itself could accommodate them.
My Hero Academia is a hugely popular anime and manga, boasting many beloved characters that fans are eager to learn more about. In addition to the main series, four non-canon movies have been released to positive reviews, suggesting any future original films would likely be well-received too. Given the success of the spin-off series, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, the franchise could easily explore more stories featuring new characters within the same world. While a final release date hasn’t been confirmed, the anime is expected to conclude around December of this year.
