As a huge My Hero Academia fan, I was so fascinated to hear Clifford Chapin, the voice of Bakugo, talk about recording the final battle! He said it was incredibly draining, not just saying the lines, but really living them. He described it as physically exhausting, especially because Bakugo is literally fighting for his life – imagine breathing heavily after having your chest ripped open! It really shows how much dedication he puts into the role, making it feel so real for us as viewers.
Bakugo Voice Star Talks Pain for the Final Battle
Explaining the effort involved in portraying physical strain, Chapin noted that the character is internally struggling, and actors need to convey that through their physical performance. Even though they’re voice actors, a lot of physicality is needed to make the performance sound genuine. He added that this strain intensifies when multiple challenges combine, and because they’re dubbing over existing animation, they have very strict timing requirements – the dialogue must fit precisely within the given timeframe.
During that final fight, Bakugo was giving it his all constantly, and I was struggling to catch my breath between each line. It was physically exhausting – we had to keep pausing to breathe and redo parts that didn’t quite work. The hardest part emotionally came at the end, wondering if my performance was good enough. I just really wanted to know if it was okay.
How Bakugo Has Changed
Reflecting on Bakugo’s development leading up to the final battle, voice actor Chapin expressed how rewarding the role has been. He explained that it’s been a particularly fulfilling experience because, unlike many characters in any type of production – animation, anime, live action, etc. – Bakugo wasn’t limited to a single, predictable role; he was allowed to grow and change throughout the series.
Chapin explained what made playing Bakugo so rewarding. He said it was a gift as an actor to portray a character who evolves significantly throughout the series, yet still feels authentic to his original self. He enjoys exploring that growth and finds it satisfying to see the audience connect with Bakugo’s development. He described the experience as ‘wonderful’.
