The popular anime series My Hero Academia has concluded, and the voice actor for the main character, Izuku Midoriya, recently shared details about performing Deku’s final fight. The series, which began a decade ago with a promise of a hero’s journey, took many unexpected turns. Ultimately, the final battle saw Deku fully realize his potential and become the hero fans had always hoped for.
The final season of My Hero Academia really tested Deku in his last fights, and he gave it his all in the climactic battle against All For One. In an interview with ComicBook celebrating the anime’s ending, Justin Briner, the voice actor for Deku, shared how he approached performing that crucial final attack. As you might expect for such an important moment, Briner focused on the energy of everyone who was counting on Deku to succeed.
My Hero Academia’s Deku Went Plus Ultra for the Finale
According to Briner, portraying Deku is challenging because the character faces threats to everything he cares about. He believes Deku was ultimately able to overcome these obstacles thanks to the support he’s gained from others. As an actor, Briner feels motivated by the excitement surrounding the final season and wants to deliver a strong performance, giving it ‘one more Plus Ultra push’ to end the series perfectly.
Reflecting on the anime so far, voice actor Justin Briner shared how much Deku has developed as a character. He expressed admiration for Deku’s growth and how easy it is to support him. Briner also responded to early criticism of Deku, explaining that his emotional side – even his willingness to cry – isn’t a weakness, but actually a key part of what makes him a special and compelling hero.
Deku Has Changed So Much in My Hero Academia

Briner explained that Deku’s ability to deeply understand himself and his own emotions is what allowed him to connect with and learn from the heroes he admired. He noted Deku’s constant note-taking in the early seasons as evidence of this, suggesting it showed an ability to understand the world around him in a way many others don’t.
The actor who voices Deku understands better than anyone how much the character has grown throughout My Hero Academia. Luckily, Deku’s story isn’t over yet! A new episode of the anime will be released next year, and we’ll soon see more of the future that Deku and his friends fought so hard to achieve after a difficult and destructive conflict.
