As a lifestyle expert who’s been following the Nancy Guthrie case, I’m getting updates that investigators have cleared her immediate family and close friends as potential suspects. It seems they’re now focusing their efforts elsewhere in the search for answers about what happened to her.
Oh my gosh, it’s been over two weeks since Savannah Guthrie’s mom disappeared, and I’ve been glued to every update! Finally, Sheriff Chris Nanos from Pima County released a statement â it’s not much, but it gives us a little more insight into who they’re looking at in connection with this whole thing. I’m just so worried about her and hoping they find out what happened soon!
In a statement on February 16th, investigators confirmed that the entire Guthrie family â including all siblings and their spouses â has been ruled out as suspects in this case. They emphasized that the family has been fully cooperative and are themselves victims of the circumstances.
He stated that claiming anything different is not just inaccurate, but deeply insensitive. The Guthries are simply victims in this situation.
Following the release of additional case details by police, it’s been revealed that investigators found multiple gloves near the property of Nancy in Tucson, Arizona. Surveillance footage from February 1st showed a masked individual in the area.
Okay, so the sheriff’s department put out a statement on February 13th â Iâve been following every single update, obviously â and it said the gloves they found werenât at the house, not even close! They were like, two miles away. Everyone was saying a glove was inside or on the property, but thatâs just not true. Theyâve sent everything they found to the lab, so hopefully weâll get some answers soon. Iâm justâŠobsessed with getting to the bottom of this, you know?
The sheriff’s comments follow the FBI’s recent release of doorbell camera video and details about the person who may have taken Nancy.
The FBI confirmed new details about the person suspected in the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie. This came after experts from the FBIâs Operational Technology Division analyzed video from a doorbell camera, according to a statement released on February 12th.
Police say the suspect is a man between 5â9â and 5â10â tall with an average build. He was seen in a video wearing a black âOzark Trail Hiker Packâ backpack, which has a capacity of 25 liters. A photo of the suspect was also released.
The FBI shared more information about the case and also doubled the reward for help finding Nancy Guthrie. They are now offering up to $100,000 â up from $50,000 â for information that leads to her location or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.

Nancy Guthrie, mother to Annie, Camron, and Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, around 9:30 p.m. on January 31st, according to the Pima County police.

Police confirmed to Today that Nancy, age 84, was reported missing by her family on February 1st. A friend became worried when Nancy didnât attend church that morning and let her family know. After searching her property for about an hour, her children contacted the authorities around noon to report her missing.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos later explained how the initial investigation, involving homicide detectives, took place at the victim’s home.
We don’t usually involve the sheriff in situations like this, but the details coming from the house are very troubling,” he said at a press conference on February 2nd. “This case was particularly unusual based on what officers described and what we discovered at the scene.
âThis isnât typical procedure,â Nanos explained. âUsually, our homicide team is dispatched when we have a death, a body to investigate. In this case, we sent them based solely on the information the surveyors provided.â

After looking into what happened, officials said they think a crime occurred at Nancy’s house.
During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos stated that investigators now believe they have confirmed a crime scene after processing the location. He asked for the publicâs assistance, noting that the community has a history of helping to solve difficult cases and he hopes they will do so again.
The sheriff pointed out that Nancy had difficulty walkingâshe couldn’t walk even a short distance on her ownâwhich led him to suspect she didn’t disappear voluntarily.
He stated definitively, “We know she didn’t simply leave on her own,” and explained that evidence at the location suggests she didn’t leave voluntarily.

The search for Nancy is ongoing, and officials are concerned because she requires daily medication to stay healthy, and she likely doesn’t have it with her.
During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos explained that an 84-year-old woman under his care is facing serious health issues and requires medication urgently. Without it within 24 hours, her condition could become life-threatening.
Weâre asking anyone with information about this â anything theyâve seen or heard â to please get in touch. Please call 911. We want to avoid another tragedy and really need the publicâs help.
Although Nancy has faced some health challenges, Dr. Nanos highlighted that her mind remains sharp.
According to Nanos, Nancy Guthrie is mentally alert and this situation isn’t related to dementia. She’s very sharp and aware. The family wants to emphasize that she didn’t simply wander away, and any physical limitations are simply due to her age.
With the search for Nancy still underway, Nanos expressed his hope that she will be found safe.
“I hope we find her safe and sound,” he emphasized, “but we cannot ignore what’s in front of us.”

The day after Nancy was reported missing, the anchor of the Today show publicly shared how difficult this time is for her family.
Speaking for my family, I want to express our gratitude for all the kind thoughts, prayers, and messages weâve received,â she said on February 2nd in an interview with NBCâs morning show. âOur top priority right now is bringing Nancy home safely.
She expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts in the case and asked anyone with information to please reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

As soon as Savannah Guthrie shared the news that her mom, Nancy, had been reported missing, my heart went out to her. It was so comforting to see her co-anchors on Today immediately rally around her and offer their public support. It really showed what a close-knit team they are, and it meant a lot to see them standing with her during such a difficult time.
Jenna Bush Hager shared on the February 2nd episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle that she is personally close to Nancy and expressed her affection for her.
She continued, saying they were keeping Savannah and her family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, Sheinelle Jones emphasized the importance of community during this difficult time.Â
Honestly, when she said that, it just hit me. It was such a perfect moment! She was talking about how we, as fans, could really make a difference, urging everyone to reach out to the Pima County Sheriffâs department with anything they might know, even if it seemed insignificant. It felt like she really believed in us, and it made me want to do everything I could to help, no matter how small the detail!
She added, âSo weâre sending our prayers but weâre also sending our collective action.â
Before concluding the segment, both hosts continued, âWe love you, Savannah.â

And Sunday Today anchor Willie Geist also urged fans to keep an eye out for Nancy.
On February 2nd, he posted on Instagram asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of Savannah Guthrieâs mother, Nancy, to contact the Pima County Sheriffâs Department in Arizona. He also included the sheriffâs departmentâs phone number, stating that she was missing.
Savannahâs former colleague, Hoda Kotb, responded to the surprising announcement by posting a heartwarming photo of Savannah and Nancy together on the set of Today. In a simple message on February 2nd, Hoda shared a red heart and praying hands emoji.

Police have labeled Nancyâs home in Arizona a crime scene, but they say thereâs no reason for the public to be concerned.
Pima County Sheriff Nanos said at a press conference on February 2nd that he doesn’t believe there is a current danger, but emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and much work remains.
Savannah hasn’t appeared on Today since February 1st, when her mother was reported missing. However, local authorities have been checking in with her to ensure her well-being.
The sheriff confirmed they had spoken with her. She has a security team that has been communicating with them all night, but they aren’t ruling anything out at this point.

On Feb. 2, Pima County police shared a series of updates on the timeline of Nancyâs disappearance.
According to the Pima County Sheriffâs Office, investigators now think the woman was taken from her home against her will, likely overnight. They are currently investigating the case as a possible kidnapping.

After news broke that Nancy might have been taken from her home in Arizona while she was sleeping, Savannah made a heartfelt plea.
In a recent Instagram post from February 2nd, she shared her faith, writing about the power of prayer and the importance of coming together with love and hope. She expressed a strong belief in goodness, humanity, and, most importantly, in God.
Oh my gosh, Savannah just spoke and it broke my heart! She was thanking everyone for praying for her mom, Nancy, and she described her as someone with such strong beliefs, a truly good person. It was so emotional! She asked us to keep praying, really believing that those prayers are lifting Nancy up right now. I’m praying so hard, I just know it’s helping. Nancy is such an inspiration, and I’m sending all my love and prayers to her and the whole family.
She added, âwe need you.â
To conclude her plea, Savannah shared a Bible verse from Isaiah.
She shared a verse from Isaiah, writing, “He will keep those with steadfast hearts and unwavering trust in the Lord in perfect peace.” She believed this message held true for everyone, now and always.
Savannah continued, âBring her home.â

Pima County Sheriff Nanos stated that DNA evidence was discovered at Nancy’s home, which is now being treated as a crime scene.
We collected samples and are hoping they contain enough DNA to help us identify what weâre dealing with, he told NBC News in a report on Today on February 3rd.
Two days after Nancy went missing, Nanos explained what happened leading up to her disappearance at a press conference.
According to Nanos, the doorbell camera stopped working at 1:47 a.m., about four hours after she got back from a family visit, as she explained in a press conference on February 5th.
The software identified someone at the door, but the video was automatically deleted because Nancy didn’t have a paid subscription. However, the representative assured her they were still working to recover the footage.
The sheriff explained that Nancy’s pacemaker app lost connection to her phone at 2:28 a.m. The family found her missing at 11:56 a.m., and 911 was called to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department just three minutes later, at 12:03 p.m.
About ten minutes after receiving the report, he explained that patrol teams would arrive, assess the situation, and then begin a response involving both search-and-rescue and detective units.

On February 4th, Savannah, Camron, and Annie read letters meant for their mother and whoever might be holding her, begging for Nancy to be returned home safely.
In a video posted to Instagram, the family said they are doing everything possible and are willing to communicate. They emphasized the ease with which videos and images can be altered today, and stated their urgent need for proof that their loved one is alive and in the possession of those they are addressing.
My mom is the center of our world and everything to us,” she said. “Her health is very delicate, and sheâs in pain all the time. Right now, she doesnât have the medication she needs to stay alive and feel better.
The next day, Camron confirmed in a separate video that the family was still “waiting for contact.”
We’re asking whoever has our mother to please contact us. We havenât received any direct communication, and we need to establish a way to connect so we can start resolving this situation.
During a press conference on February 5th, FBI agent Heith Janke announced the arrest of Derrick Callella from California. Callella is accused of sending fake text messages as part of an attempt to profit from the situation â the FBI described him as an “imposter.” They are also investigating a detailed ransom letter shared with TMZ as a very serious threat. Callella has not yet entered a plea and was released on a $20,000 bond.
However, he noted, the Guthrie family was “still waiting for communication.”

On February 7th, the day officials told Today they had searched Annieâs Arizona property as a routine part of the investigation, Savannah posted another Instagram video suggesting her earlier wish had come true.
Speaking while holding hands with Camron and Annie, she said, “We got your message and we understand what you’re saying. Please, just bring our mother back so we can celebrate with her. That’s all we ask, and it’s the only thing that will bring us peace.”
And if her intentions weren’t clear, Savannah added, “This is very valuable to us and we will pay.”

Investigators publicly shared surveillance photos of a person of interest in the case on February 10th.
As a lifestyle and home safety expert, I’ve been reviewing the footage recovered from Nancy’s property, and it’s quite concerning. The video clearly shows someone approaching her home wearing a ski mask and carrying a backpack. Disturbingly, the individual actually appears to punch the security camera itself. Police had already noted the camera was damaged when they arrived, and now we can see exactly how that happened.
For the past eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working with private companies to find any lost, damaged, or hidden images or videos from Nancy Guthrieâs home. This effort included trying to recover data after recording devices were removed. They were able to retrieve the video from data still stored in the systemsâ background processes, according to a statement shared with TopMob News.
“Working with our partners,â the note continued, “law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”
Two days after the FBI shared video of the person who went near Nancy’s house, investigators provided a description of the suspect.
According to the FBIâs Phoenix office, the suspect is a man around 5â9â to 5â10â tall with an average build. He was seen in a video wearing a black âOzark Trail Hiker Packâ backpack with a capacity of 25 liters.
The FBI is now offering a $100,000 reward â up from $50,000 â for information that helps find Nancy Guthrie or leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.
