Manuel Masalva is awake and on the mend.
After spending three months in a medically-induced coma as a result of a severe bacterial infection, the actor from “Narcos: Mexico” shared his thoughts publicly for the first time.
On July 7, he posted on Instagram that he’s getting better. He deeply appreciates all the support he’s received and continues to receive from each and every one of you, in every possible way.
In my own words, after Masalva acknowledged that his healing journey is just starting out, I am feeling incredibly fortunate, robust, rejuvenated, and supported as I embark on the next stage of my life.
He continued, “God has given me a new life.”
Masalva’s medical predicament commenced roughly around March 18, as he started experiencing internal unease and pain following his arrival in Dubai from the Philippines, according to his manager Jaime Jaramillo Espinosa, as reported earlier by the Los Angeles Times.
As an ardent admirer putting words to my adoration, I’ve learned that Masalva, our beloved star, was struck by a bacterial invasion on March 26, as revealed by Jaramillo Espinosa, his trusted confidant. The doctors’ diagnosis necessitated an emergency operation. Tragically, the following day, this insidious invader infiltrated his lungs, compelling him to be placed in a medically-induced coma, as disclosed by his manager.
Throughout April, Masalva’s health remained in a critical state, as shared by his friend Mario Morán on GoFundMe.
Morán, who is both an actor and a patient, shared in his April 3 update that the bacteria has been found within his system. He’s currently undergoing treatment with antibiotics, and we’re all hoping for an improvement in his condition soon.
In his latest social media update following his illness, Masalva expressed, “I’m not entirely sure if I grasp everything that’s happening or only a piece of it. It feels like it’s been forever, and there are still pieces left unanswered.
He expressed his deepest gratitude towards God, his family, his medical team, and everyone who’s been by his side throughout this journey. Without your help, I wouldn’t be here today.

In April 2025, the former cast member of “Beverly Hills, 90210” shared that he was on the road to recovery following an appendix surgery, which almost ruptured.
A week ago, Brian shared on Instagram that he began experiencing abdominal discomfort. This led him to visit the emergency room where they discovered his appendix was about to rupture, but thankfully it hadn’t quite yet.
He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”
Adam Devine revealed that the injuries he suffered at age 11, following an accident with a cement truck, continue to impact him up until now.
Devine stated on an episode of the In Depth With Graham Bensinger podcast in 2025, ‘It’s been a living hell.’ He explained that he has constant muscle spasms throughout his body. For some time now, doctors have warned him that death was imminent – literally, within the last year.
He pointed out that pain appears intermittently, expressing, “There are several aspects of my body that sometimes behave oddly or are not quite functioning correctly.
Previously from Bachelor Nation, he revealed that he had to visit the hospital by crawling on his hands and knees because of intense back pain that worsened during a camping trip with a buddy.
Currently, from my toes to my knees, it’s still quite numb, which is astonishing,” he remarked during his Trading Secrets podcast episode in March 2025. “To give you an idea, about two, three weeks ago, maybe a month ago, I was squatting around 295 pounds. Now, I can’t even do a squat on one leg. I can’t manage a one-legged squat; if I try, I fall. It feels like I’ve had a stroke or something.
But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”
In a game held in December 2024, an AHL player got injured when another player’s skate accidentally sliced him open. He required 25 stitches for the wound. Subsequently, when his son had fully recovered, New Jersey Devils general manager, Tom Fitzgerald, expressed his gratitude to ESPN, stating, “We were incredibly fortunate. I wouldn’t wish such an incident on any parent.
Gina Kirschenheiter from The Real Housewives of Orange County disclosed that her former spouse, Matt Kirschenheiter, experienced a heart attack back in March 2025. Fortunately, he managed to pull through this challenging episode.
In March 2025, during a New York Knicks basketball game, the star from the show 30 Rock had a health emergency, which necessitated his removal from Madison Square Garden in a wheelchair.
On the next day, the comedian posted an update on social media, explaining it was food poisoning and he was getting better.
In February 2025, the former star of Even Stevens disclosed that she was accidentally shot in the face during a trip to fire clay pigeons as a celebration for her husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday.
In a shocking turn of events, I found myself the unwitting victim of another party gone awry. A reckless individual discharged their firearm haphazardly and unfortunately, it struck me square in the face. As I recounted this harrowing incident on Instagram, @thebrendanrooney swiftly leapt into action. He assessed my condition, quickly determining that I had been hit in no less than five spots. Remarkably, one of these bullet wounds was only a fraction of an inch away from hitting me directly in my right eye. Thankfully, Brendan’s quick thinking and decisive action got me the medical attention I needed in time.
The former cast member of “Kim Possible” added, “Regrettably, a piece became stuck near my eye, and it’s not safe to extract surgically for now. My doctors will keep a close watch on me (currently, I can see clearly).
The actress expressed her heartfelt gratitude for being alive. She shared, “My daughters, husband, family, and friends mean the world to me.” She went on to say that she had a close brush with death and strongly urged everyone to embrace their loved ones whenever possible. She cautioned that life can unexpectedly take a turn at any moment.
Although the internet can sometimes be unkind, Amy Schumer is grateful that in this instance, it provided her with valuable insights.
Recalling an episode of Call Her Daddy from January 2025, Amy said, “The internet was quite critical after a series of interviews I did, and I responded, ‘Calm down everyone.’ But then medical professionals started commenting, saying they thought something was wrong with me. I remember thinking, ‘I’m being trolled by doctors?'”
After these doctors suggested she might have Cushing syndrome due to elevated cortisol levels or steroid injections, the creator of Life & Beth started to consider her own use of steroids.
“I had been receiving steroid injections for scars following a breast reduction and a C-section,” Amy explained. “So it seems that these injections caused me to develop Cushing syndrome, a condition I wouldn’t have known about if the internet hadn’t been so relentless.”
Now, Amy is simply relieved to know she’s healthy. As she wrote in her February 2024 News Not Noise newsletter, “Learning that the type of Cushing syndrome I have will resolve itself on its own was the best news possible.
In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a terrifying incident during breakfast with her husband Justin Bieber. She started showing symptoms similar to a stroke, such as slurred speech and facial drooping. As she struggled to respond, Hailey couldn’t speak properly, and her right side of the face began drooping.
A month later, Hailey shared this experience on YouTube. She explained that Justin asked if she was okay, but since she wasn’t sure, she didn’t respond initially. When he asked again, she tried to speak, but couldn’t. Medical scans at the hospital revealed a small blood clot in her brain, which they categorized as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA).
Further tests at the University of California, Los Angeles, discovered that Hailey had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). The blood clot escaped through this hole and traveled to her brain, causing the TIA.
Hailey underwent a successful PFO closure procedure and is now feeling well.
In the same year Hailey went through a health crisis, Justin Bieber also faced a similar challenge. Specifically, in 2022, the “Baby” singer disclosed his diagnosis with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, a condition that temporarily paralyzed parts of his face and compelled him to postpone the rest of his Justice World Tour.
During this time, Justin described the situation in an Instagram video, stating: “The virus has attacked the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves, causing my face to be paralyzed. As you can see, this eye isn’t blinking, I can’t smile on this side of my face, this nostril won’t move – so there’s full paralysis on this side of my face.”
He further shared with his followers that it had become increasingly difficult for him to eat. However, after some time, the paralysis subsided.
Hailey commented on a June 2022 episode of Good Morning America, stating: “He’s doing really well,” and later added, “He’s feeling much better now. Obviously, it was a very scary and unexpected situation, but he will be completely fine, and I am just grateful that he is alright.
In the realm of personal experiences shared by lifestyle experts, let me recount Jamie Foxx’s harrowing ordeal in 2023, as he bravely faced an unexpected health challenge. Speaking candidly during his 2024 Netflix special, “What Had Happened Was…”, the Oscar-winning icon revealed a tale of resilience and determination.
One day in Atlanta, I, Jamie Foxx, found myself grappling with an excruciating headache. I turned to my friend for relief, asking him to fetch me an aspirin. However, before I could even take the medication, I blacked out. I regained consciousness 20 days later, unaware of those missed moments.
Initially examined by a doctor who administered a cortisone shot and sent me home, my concerned sister, Deidra Dixon, insisted on taking me to a hospital. There, they discovered the source of my distress: a brain bleed that had triggered a stroke.
Twenty days after undergoing surgery, I awoke in a wheelchair, unable to walk. I was subsequently transferred to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy.
In the face of this adversity, I found solace in every prayer offered on my behalf. My journey serves as a testament to the power of resilience, faith, and the unwavering support of loved ones.
Emilia Clarke, renowned for her role in Game of Thrones, filmed intense battle scenes, but in 2019, she penned an essay in The New Yorker titled “A Battle for My Life”. In the gym, she was struck with a severe headache that led her to the toilet where she became violently ill. The agony intensified, and she realized her brain had been injured.
Rushed to the hospital for a scan, she received the grim diagnosis of a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a potentially fatal type of stroke caused by bleeding around the brain. She had suffered an aneurysm, a ruptured artery.
Undergoing immediate surgery to seal the aneurysm, she described the pain as unbearable. During her recovery, she struggled with aphasia and spoke incoherently. A week later, the aphasia subsided, and she was discharged from the hospital after a month.
In 2013, during a routine brain scan, she learned that the growth had doubled in size, necessitating another surgery. “When they woke me,” she wrote, “I was screaming in pain. The procedure had failed. I had a massive bleed, and the doctors made it clear that my chances of surviving were precarious if they didn’t operate again. This time they needed to access my brain through my skull.”
Fortunately, she shared, she’s now fully recovered and in perfect health.
Snoop Dogg’s daughter, Cori Broadus, expressed her gratitude towards her family, who were there for her during a challenging time. In January 2024, she suffered a severe stroke and her loved ones quickly gathered to support her.
“I texted them that I had just experienced a stroke and sent them a picture,” she shared with TopMob News correspondent Will Marfuggi in December 2024. “Everyone rushed to my aid.”
Due to additional health issues, Cori’s hospital stay was prolonged beyond her initial expectations.
“I could have been discharged after the stroke,” she continued, “but my lupus wasn’t responding well. My kidneys were failing. I had a lot going on.”
Now, Cori is recovering well.
“I’m doing well now,” she said. “I just needed to regain some motor skills, but otherwise, I was fine.
In my twenties, my health took an unfortunate turn. It got to the point where I started losing my hearing, could barely walk for more than a few minutes without needing long periods of rest, and everything I ate would upset my stomach. Different doctors gave me various diagnoses, but it was a confusing mix of issues.
Determined to find answers, I drew upon my background in holistic healing and herbalism. I sought help from both traditional medical professionals and independent healers, striving for a balance between conventional and alternative treatments. This quest took over a decade.
During that time, the physical discomfort led to other challenges, such as fear of food due to stomach pain, which in turn brought on mental struggles like body dysmorphia, identity confusion, and a lack of feeling safe and secure within myself.
Thankfully, I’ve managed to overcome these issues and am now in good health. It was a long journey, but I am grateful that it has come to a successful resolution.
