Natasha Lyonne to Be Replaced in Poker Face Amid Cancellation

Following its cancellation by Peacock after two seasons, the murder-mystery series Poker Face, which previously starred Natasha Lyonne, has cast a new lead. The former Game of Thrones actor will take on the role of Charlie Cale, according to several reports.

Natasha, also an executive producer on the show, and creator Rian Johnson are planning a new approach for future seasons. According to The Hollywood Reporter, they’re hoping to find a new network partner and commit to two seasons at a time, featuring a different lead actor every two seasons.

The pair have also vocalized their dedication to the comedy series.

Natasha and Rian revealed in a statement on November 13th that they’ve been planning this next step since finishing the second season. They expressed their affection for the show Poker Face and believe this is a great way to continue its success.

They added, “Give us a beat and we may just see Charlie Cale again down that open highway.” 

During its two seasons, Poker Face received six Emmy nominations and won one Emmy award for Judith Light’s performance as a guest star in the first season. The show also attracted many well-known guest actors, including John Mulaney, Kumail Nanjiani, Justin Theroux, and Cynthia Erivo from Wicked. Erivo herself was nominated for an Emmy this year for playing sextuplets in a season two episode.

Before the show was cancelled, Natasha talked about how thrilled she was when she first read the script, but also mentioned how challenging it was to get the show made in the first place.

She told Variety in May that she was thrilled when she first read the script. While she thought every network would be excited, many were hesitant because the show didn’t follow a traditional, continuous story arc.

Even if Charlie Cale doesn’t come back to television, getting to work with Rian on the show has been an absolute dream for me as a fan. It’s been such a thrill to see their vision come to life!

Honestly, it just gets me so excited to hear her talk about starting a project from the very beginning! She told Dazed magazine that being involved right from the start – like when she and Rian were just brainstorming ideas for the show – is what she really loves. It’s amazing to think they built it all from scratch together, and she got to be part of that initial spark!

With fans wondering if Poker Face will be renewed for another season, here’s an update on the status of other television series.
