The show has announced Dwayne Pride will return, but not as portrayed by Scott Bakula. A different actor will take on the role.
Scott Bakula famously played Dwayne Pride in the original NCIS series and later starred in its spinoff, NCIS: New Orleans. His last appearance as Dwayne was in the 2021 finale of the spinoff. Now, the character is returning in NCIS: Origins, but with a new actor, Shea Buckner, portraying a younger version of Dwayne Pride.
The actor, known for his role as Tony Caccimelio in the latest season of Only Murder in the Building, will appear in Season 2 of another show later this season.
While the announcement wasn’t unexpected – it was hinted at a week ago – the show still needed to find someone to take over the role previously played by Scott Bakula. This is common for NCIS: Origins, as it’s a prequel and other well-known characters have been recast in similar ways.
