‘NCIS: Tony & Ziva’ Petition Launched; Series Breaks Record of Shortest ‘NCIS’ Spinoff

The sudden cancellation of the show has prompted fans to create a petition on Change.org, urging Paramount to reconsider. Using hashtags like #SaveTonyandZiva and #BringBackTiva, the reaction from fans has been incredibly passionate – or so it initially appeared.

It’s no surprise a petition has started after so many fans expressed their disappointment about the show being cancelled online. We’ve seen fan campaigns successfully bring back shows like Manifest and Lucifer before, and even movies – like Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which fans finally got to see after a long push. Now, a petition is circulating to try and revive Tony & Ziva:

Tony and Ziva from NCIS became incredibly popular thanks to the show’s captivating plots, memorable characters, and the amazing connection between actors Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly. Their chemistry was a key part of the original NCIS and also drew viewers to this spin-off, especially during its first season. However, despite a dedicated and enthusiastic fanbase, Paramount+ has chosen not to continue the series past one season, leaving longtime followers of Tony and Ziva’s story disappointed.

The petition concludes by urging Paramount+ executives to reconsider canceling the show and to revive it with more episodes featuring Tony and Ziva.

We strongly encourage Paramount+ to renew the show for a second season. This would satisfy its dedicated fanbase – who have been vital to its success – and show their dedication to good stories and the people who make them.

As of today, nearly a day after the announcement that the show was cancelled, the petition to save it has only gathered under 300 signatures. This likely won’t be enough to make Paramount reconsider their choice.

As a TV critic, I’m always watching renewal decisions, and they vary wildly. Some shows get picked up right away, others are left hanging for months. But the cancellation of NCIS: Tony & Ziva is particularly surprising – it’s only been two months since the season finale! What really stands out is that CBS has never canceled an NCIS spin-off after just one season. We’ve seen cancellations before, like NCIS: Hawai’i, which lasted three seasons and was reportedly cut due to high costs and the network wanting to refresh its programming. Even that show sparked a fan outcry, with petitions gathering nearly 45,000 signatures – and another with 5,000 – but ultimately, it wasn’t enough.

Last year, a new show called NCIS: Origins was announced, exploring the early days of the famous character Leroy Gibbs. Since that show is coming back for a second season, many fans think a different series, Tony & Ziva, would have done better if it had aired on CBS instead of being exclusive to the streaming service Paramount+.

It’s unlikely that NCIS: Tony & Ziva will be revived. Despite fan efforts, the reasons for its cancellation seem permanent, and it won’t be picked up by another streaming service like some shows are. After a lot of anticipation, it appears the story of Tony and Ziva has come to a final end.
