Ncuti Gatwa expressed his gratitude for being nominated for a Scottish BAFTA for his work on Doctor Who, sharing a touching message after finishing his time on the show.
Ncuti Gatwa received nominations for his performance as the Fifteenth Doctor in Doctor Who’s fifteenth season, including a nomination for Actor in Film/Television and the Audience Award.
Ncuti Gatwa recently shared on Instagram that he’s grateful for the award he received from BAFTA Scotland, calling it a huge honor and saying he’s thrilled to be recognized alongside such talented people. He apologized for the delayed post.
Ncuti Gatwa received a nomination along with two other actors from Doctor Who: David Tennant, recognized for his work in Rivals, and Peter Capaldi for his appearance in the Black Mirror episode ‘Plaything’.
Joining the nominees for Actor in Film/Television are James McAvoy, known for his role in *Speak No Evil*, James McArdle from *Four Mothers*, and Ruaridh Mollica, who starred in *Sebastian*.

Ncuti Gatwa’s recent award nomination follows his departure from Doctor Who, which concluded with a surprising transformation into Billie Piper’s character.
The actor later shared that leaving the show was a tough call. In an interview with The Telegraph, they explained they were feeling exhausted and burnt out by the end of season two, but also described the experience as truly magical.
It was relentless – I never had a chance to rest. I was working seven days a week for eight months straight, and it was really tough being away from my family and home.
I’d been filming in Cardiff, on and off, for five years with Sex Education before starting work on Doctor Who. We began shooting Doctor Who while I was still finishing up the fourth season of Sex Education.
He explained his departure by saying it was a difficult decision, as he’d grown very fond of the show. While he’ll miss it, he felt it was time to pursue new opportunities.
Everyone is waiting to hear if Disney will renew the show for more seasons. But the BBC has confirmed that Doctor Who will continue, regardless of whether Disney decides to participate.
Fans have a lot to look forward to with the new spin-off, The War Between the Land and the Sea, which stars Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
The BAFTA Scotland Awards for 2025 will be held on November 16th, and you can watch coverage of the event on BAFTA’s YouTube channel.
