Good news for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure fans: Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli will be back for the next part of Steel Ball Run! However, it won’t be released as a traditional weekly series. David Production and Netflix announced this at Anime Japan with a new trailer. While fans won’t have to wait a whole year to continue following the North American horse race, a specific release date for the next part hasn’t been announced yet.
The next part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Steel Ball Run – 2nd Stage, is coming to Netflix in 2026. However, David Production hasn’t announced a specific release date for Johnny and Gyro’s journey into the “Devil’s Palm.” It’s also unclear how Netflix will release the episodes. The previous season, Stone Ocean, was released in groups of episodes, which fans didn’t enjoy, so it looks like the weekly “JoJo Fridays” are over. You can watch the new trailer below.
The Steel Ball Run Race Marches On, Despite a Rough Start
I’m so hyped for Steel Ball Run! It’s been a bit of a wait between episodes, and the director, Yasuhiro Kimura, recently explained why. He said it’s a real challenge to animate such a fast-moving story, especially with all the incredible horse racing! He actually admitted he’s just as eager to see the finished episodes as we are, saying it takes a lot of work to get each one right. Honestly, given how dynamic the series is and all the horses they have to animate, it totally makes sense that David Production is putting in the extra effort to make it look amazing. I can’t wait to see it all come together!
Given that Steel Ball Run is a particularly long story arc in the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series, it’s reasonable to expect the anime adaptation will be divided into multiple parts, mirroring the extensive, cross-country race. Even when this season concludes, it’s unlikely to be the last we see of the Joestar family’s adventures. The manga continues beyond Steel Ball Run with the storylines JoJolion and The JOJOLands, which offer fresh narratives. Considering the current pace of release, it seems unlikely that Steel Ball Run will be fully adapted this year, and fans might have to wait several years to see the conclusion of this alternate universe.
