Netflix Greenlights New Adult Animated Workplace Series

A new comedy series is coming soon! Called Living the Dream, it’s created by George Gendi, who previously made the Cartoon Network show Apple & Onion, which aired from 2016 to 2021.

The new comedy series Living the Dream centers around best friends Des and Ray, two Londoners who feel like they deserve more out of life. They’re currently stuck working in social media for a company called Ecofood, and navigating the usual workplace challenges – including awkward romances, HR issues, and demands from the Los Angeles head office. They also have to contend with Ray’s disapproving father. Similar to the animated series Bob’s Burgers, Living the Dream will also feature a strong family dynamic.

A new animated comedy series for adults comes from Gendi, the BAFTA-nominated creator of Apple & Onion. Ambika Mod and Julia Davisi, known for their work in Love Actually, will star with Ellie White and Tom Stourton. Warner Bros. Animation’s Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe is producing the eight-episode series, which was first revealed at the Manchester Animation Festival in the UK.

Gendi playfully said that if achieving your dream means endlessly rewriting a press release quote to make it funnier – at the request of Netflix, no less – then they’ve definitely made it, following the announcement of their new show.

The upcoming animated series, Living the Dream, will be executive produced by Sam Register (known for Looney Tunes Cartoons and Teen Titans Go!), Sarah Fell (The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball), and Daniel Lennard (The Amazing World of Gumball). Gendi, White, Phoebe Walsh, Joe Parnham, and Joe Markham are among the writers for the show, and animation is being handled by Boulder Media in Ireland.

Netflix Recently Ordered 2 More Animated Shows

Netflix recently approved several new animated series, and the latest is called Alley Cats. Ricky Gervais will voice a character described as a grumpy, overweight creature with fangs who overestimates his own intelligence and courage. Gervais is not only creating the show but will also be directing it.

I’m really excited for 2026 – that’s when Alley Cats is supposed to come out! And great news for fans of smart comedy: Netflix just greenlit a second season of Long Story Short, which is from the creator of BoJack Horseman, Raphael Bob-Waksberg. I loved the first season, so I can’t wait!

A release date for Living the Dream has not yet been announced.
