DreamWorks has created many popular and well-known animated films, but they also have a number of movies that haven’t stuck with audiences as much. While films like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon became huge successes and defined the studio’s future, other DreamWorks movies have been largely forgotten – and one of those is soon leaving Netflix.
If you’re a Netflix subscriber and want to watch Shark Tale, you only have a few days left! This animated adventure from 2004 stars Will Smith as Oscar, a small-time fish who pretends to have defeated a shark mob boss’s son to become a hero. He then has to maintain the lie with the help of the mob boss’s son, Lenny. The movie boasts a star-studded cast including Robert De Niro, Renée Zellweger, Angelina Jolie, Jack Black, and Martin Scorsese. Shark Tale will be removed from Netflix on January 1st, so don’t miss out!
Shark Tale Is DreamWorks’ Lowest-Rated Movie
Despite earning a significant $375 million at the box office on a $75 million budget, Shark Tale wasn’t well-received by critics or general audiences. It currently holds a low 35
The film’s poor reviews are understandable. While it boasts a famous cast, a memorable soundtrack, and some funny scenes, overall it doesn’t quite deliver. The initial idea is creative, but the main character, Oscar, and many others are unlikeable and seem motivated only by a desire for attention. The movie also feels geared towards adults with its mafia-inspired jokes, mature themes, and certain types of humor. It even faced criticism for how it portrayed Italian-Americans, with the Columbus Citizens Foundation arguing that it unfairly links gangsters with the Italian-American community and could negatively influence children.
While Shark Tale hasn’t become a beloved classic over the years, and is generally considered one of DreamWorks’ weaker films, it still holds a bit of nostalgic charm that might make it fun to watch again.
Where to Stream Shark Tale After It Leaves Netflix?
The animated film Shark Tale is leaving Netflix and isn’t currently available on any other streaming services. It’s unclear if it will be added to another platform, but if not, fans can still rent or buy it online.
