Netflix is now streaming a new fantasy movie that’s likely to appeal to Jackie Chan fans. The streaming service has become a go-to place for international films, offering a wide variety of original movies and series from around the globe. This includes excellent films from Asia, South America, and the Middle East. Netflix’s Asian selections are particularly diverse, ranging from horror and fantasy to martial arts and gripping dramas. This newest addition should especially please those who enjoy films like Kung Fu Hustle and the work of Jackie Chan.
As a big fan of Asian action films, I was really excited to see Netflix add Arahan to its library. Seriously, if you’re into the genre, you absolutely need to give this one a watch!
Why is Arahan Worth Watching on Netflix?

Directed by Ryoo Seung-wan (known for films like The Unjust and Escape from Mogadishu), Arahan is a South Korean action-comedy that feels reminiscent of Jackie Chan’s work. The film stars Ryoo Seung-bum as Sang-hwan, a clumsy new police officer who gets unintentionally hurt by Eui-jin, a martial arts student trained by six legendary masters. Eui-jin brings Sang-hwan to her father, and the six masters believe the accident-prone cop actually has the potential to become a skilled warrior.
Arahan is a hilarious comedy about Sang-hwan, a clumsy and unskilled man who must learn to harness his spiritual energy, known as Qi. When a powerful, evil warlord named Heuk-woon defeats the world’s masters, Sang-hwan reluctantly teams up with Eui-jin to stop him from taking over the world. What’s unique about this film is that its heroes look like ordinary people, and Sang-hwan seems completely incapable of saving anyone – or even himself! It’s a great choice for fans of classic Jackie Chan martial arts comedies. Arahan also cleverly incorporates superhero elements years before superhero movies became mainstream.
Released in 2004, Arahan isn’t a recent film, but it’s now available on Netflix for fans to enjoy or rediscover. It came out around the same time as popular martial arts comedies like Kung Fu Hustle. While director Ryoo Seung-wan may not be as well-known as Stephen Chow, Arahan still features impressive kung fu action and clever humor.
