For years, Netflix has become a major player in the anime scene, producing original series like *Baki Hanma* and *Sakamoto Days*. Beyond traditional anime, they’ve also found success adapting video games into animated shows. Series such as *Castlevania*, *Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft*, and *Devil May Cry* all received multiple seasons, and Netflix isn’t stopping there. One of their recent animated releases, a show geared towards fans of spy stories, has already been renewed for a second season.
I’m so thrilled to hear that *Splinter Cell: Deathwatch* is getting a second season! It’s amazing how quickly Netflix renewed the show – clearly, people are loving seeing an older Sam Fisher brought to life in animated form. Liev Schreiber is *perfect* as the voice, and this take on Sam is seriously cool – I think he could even give Solid Snake a run for his money! Netflix hasn’t announced a release date yet, but they did share a brand new poster confirming Sam and McKenna will be back, which is awesome. I can’t wait!
The History of Splinter Cell
The *Splinter Cell* series, originally launched in 2002 on consoles like the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and GameCube, as well as PCs, has been a staple in the video game world for over two decades. Players have followed Sam Fisher as he battled various global threats, most recently in 2013’s *Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist*. While a new game hasn’t been released in over ten years, Netflix is clearly interested in continuing the *Splinter Cell* story.
Sam Fisher’s future in both video games and live-action films is currently uncertain. A live-action *Splinter Cell* movie was announced way back in 2005, with Tom Hardy even cast as Sam Fisher. However, the project was ultimately cancelled due to budget and script issues, according to producer Basil Iwanyk. Despite this, the recent success of the animated *Splinter Cell* series could open doors for larger projects in the future.
Looking for a reason to watch *Splinter Cell: Deathmatch* on Netflix? Here’s the premise: In the world of secret agents, Sam Fisher is a mysterious figure, almost a myth. He’s called back into service to team up with a rookie agent and expose a dangerous worldwide plot.
