Netflix is removing a popular adult animated series soon, so fans have just a few days left to watch all the episodes. The streaming service is updating its content in November, meaning some shows are leaving while new ones are added. This will significantly impact their collection of adult animated shows, including popular originals like Big Mouth and BoJack Horseman.
Starting November 13th, the first 13 seasons of the animated spy comedy Archer will no longer be available on Netflix. The show, created by Adam Reed, originally aired on FX for 14 seasons between 2009 and 2023 and follows the hilarious misadventures of a group of quirky intelligence agents led by the witty Sterling Archer. Archer became available on Netflix again in May 2024, after a previous run on the platform from 2014 to 2018, but is being removed due to the expiration of its licensing agreement.
Archer Is One of the Best Adult Animated Series
The departure of Archer from Netflix is a significant loss for the streaming service. The FX series is widely considered one of the best adult animated shows of all time. Highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes – with an average critic score of 91% and 84% audience approval, and perfect scores for seasons 2, 7, and 14 – Archer stands out for its distinctive visual style, blending classic 1960s spy aesthetics with modern humor. The show also features a memorable cast of quirky characters and clever writing, all wrapped up in an easy-to-follow, episodic format that’s perfect for binge-watching.
The key to Archer‘s long run – becoming one of FX’s most enduring shows – was its constant reinvention over 14 seasons. It started as a workplace comedy, inspired by classic spy thrillers from the 60s and 70s, but dramatically changed in Season 5 when the characters traded espionage for the world of drug trafficking, reminiscent of Miami Vice. The show continued to experiment, moving the action to Los Angeles in Season 7 where the team became private investigators, and later adopting an anthology format set within Archer’s own mind. By consistently changing its premise, setting, and even animation, Archer stayed exciting and avoided becoming stale, keeping it fresh and entertaining for viewers.
Where to Stream Archer After It Leaves Netflix?
If you’re a fan of Archer, don’t worry – you’ll still be able to watch it even after it leaves Netflix on November 13th. Since Disney owns the show, all 14 seasons are available on Hulu. Plus, you can stream every episode – all 145 of them – for free on Tubi. There are currently no plans for Archer to appear on any other streaming services anytime soon.
