While Netflix isn’t known *primarily* for anime like Crunchyroll or HIDIVE, it’s still released a number of original anime series. Titles like *Sakamoto Days, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Aggretsuko, Devilman Crybaby*, and *JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean* have helped establish Netflix as a player in the anime world. And for fans of action-packed anime, the popular series *Baki The Grappler* is celebrating its 35th anniversary with some exciting news on Netflix.
2026 marks the 35th anniversary of the popular *Baki* series, and fans can expect some exciting things to celebrate. A special illustration featuring Baki and his father, Yujiro Hanma, was recently released as a preview. While details are still coming, the *Baki* franchise has a lot to look forward to. With the anime returning to Netflix and new manga chapters still being published, Baki’s journey is far from over, even after his victory over his father, ensuring continued success for the series on the streaming platform.
I’m excited to share that the BAKI series is turning 35 in 2026! I’ll be following along to see what special projects and events they have planned to celebrate, and I encourage you to do the same. Keep an eye out for more information using the hashtag #BAKI35th.

The Future of Baki

After Baki finally defeated his father in the epic “Father Son War” arc, the popular anime series isn’t ending just yet. A new season, titled *Baki-Dou*, has been confirmed for Netflix, with TMS Entertainment returning to handle the animation, as they have throughout the series based on Keisuke Itagaki’s work. While a specific release date hasn’t been announced, a launch in 2026, coinciding with the franchise’s thirty-fifth anniversary, seems likely.
The original manga series continues with new installments from creator Keisuke Itagaki. After Baki’s battle with the famous swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, the story moved on to a fight between the Ogre’s son and Nomi no Sukune, a legendary sumo wrestler. Currently, the story is building towards a showdown between Baki and his brother, Jack Hanma, who is determined to get stronger after a string of losses.
I recently learned that Keisuke Itagaki isn’t the only talented artist in his family. His daughter, Peru Itagaki, has also found success with her manga, *Beastars*. It’s a really different story than her father’s *Baki*, exploring a completely unique world. While the worlds of Legosi and Baki likely won’t ever collide, both *Beastars* and *Baki* are huge hits for Netflix as exclusive anime series. Her story is wrapping up next year with its final entry.
I noticed Baki is celebrating 35 years of incredible fights and action! I’d love to hear your thoughts on it – feel free to share them in the comments, and join the discussion over at the ComicBook Forum!
