I have to say, Netflix really did it – they’ve cemented their place as the king of streaming! One of their movies was named the most-watched film of 2025, which is amazing. Last year was already huge for them with all the great originals they released, like Happy Gilmore 2, Frankenstein, Jay Kelly, and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. But this one film really took off – people just kept watching and watching after it came out in June, and it ended up being the most streamed movie of the entire year. It’s clear Netflix knows what viewers want!
The animated hit KPop Demon Hunters has become a massive success, captivating audiences and topping the charts. According to Variety, Nielsen data reveals the film amassed 20.5 billion minutes of viewing time in the U.S. – that’s like 207 million people watching the entire Netflix movie! While nearly half (48%) of its viewers were children aged 2-11, the film also proved popular with teenagers and adults.
The success of KPop Demon Hunters is especially impressive because it was released mid-year, meaning it didn’t benefit from the longer promotional period a January-February release would have provided. Once it premiered, it quickly became a sensation. Within just over a month, it broke records to become Netflix’s most-watched original animated film ever, and eventually surpassed even Red Notice and Squid Game as the platform’s most popular movie and overall title. The film stayed in the top 10 on Nielsen’s streaming charts for an incredible 25 weeks, and four songs from its highly praised soundtrack hit the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, with “Golden” recently receiving an Oscar nomination.
