The holidays are almost here, and that means a flood of feel-good, sometimes cheesy, Christmas romance movies! Instead of resisting, why not embrace the fun? Every now and then, a really great one comes along, and Netflix has been delivering lately. Their newest holiday rom-com is already a hit, racking up over 20 million views thanks to its charming cast and their fantastic chemistry.
The movie Champagne Problems embraces all the familiar and fun clichés of a holiday romantic comedy. It features a driven, career-focused heroine, Sydney Price (played by Minka Kelly), who is sent to France on a business trip right before Christmas. Her mission? To finalize the purchase of a charming champagne company. While taking a break from work to enjoy Paris, Sydney has a magical night with a handsome stranger. Things become complicated when she discovers he’s the son of the company’s owner.
It’s The Perfect Cheesy Romcom For The Season
Critics had varying opinions on the film, which isn’t unusual for holiday romantic comedies. Sarah Musnicky from But Why Tho? praised it, saying it was charming and sweet without being overly sentimental. However, other critics disagreed. Adrian Horton of The Guardian pointed out that while the movie indulges in a bit of luxury, it’s ultimately a mainstream offering, and its strengths are also its weaknesses – a ‘champagne problem,’ as they put it.
You know, people really seemed to love this movie! I was reading reviews, and one person said it shouldn’t have been as good as it was – totally adorable, romantic, and actually funny! They said it just had so much charm and really captured that Christmas in Paris feeling, and it was great to see so many French actors. Apparently, Minka was fantastic – sweet and hilarious. And everyone raved about Otto, Flula, and Tom – they had amazing chemistry together. Another viewer just summed it up perfectly: a perfect, cheesy holiday romance with impeccable vibes!
While Champagne Problems isn’t likely to win any awards, it’s a charming and enjoyable way to pass the time leading up to Christmas.
