Netflix has released a second season of a popular true-crime series. Even though the last season of Stranger Things is still incredibly popular and topping the charts, this new series has already been viewed over 5 million times – a significant achievement! It’s currently a Top 10 hit in 22 countries and continues to gain viewers.
The documentary series Missing: Dead or Alive? follows law enforcement officers in South Carolina as they investigate disappearances. It blends the style of COPS with elements of reality TV, using reenactments to help explain the cases. While these reenactments can feel a bit over-the-top, they help viewers understand what happened. Some viewers have criticized the show’s use of stylized visuals, with one saying the fancy editing detracts from the sense of realism, even though the underlying cases are real. Others may enjoy the polished production style.
Despite Mixed Reviews, It Tells A Riveting Story
Joel Keller from Decider noted that the show’s more structured moments actually work well, even if some scenes don’t feel as natural as intended. He points out that it’s common for reality TV to reshoot conversations for clarity, and while these are police officers, not reality stars, the resulting scenes sometimes feel a little forced.
Viewers loved this series, praising its clever plot and how it showed how easily evidence can be misinterpreted. While most agreed the first season was stronger, both seasons are worth watching despite some awkward voice-overs. At the very least, the crimes themselves are fascinating.
