This Netflix thriller, starring two popular Marvel actors, has been a huge hit, racking up over 338 million viewing hours. It stayed at the top of Netflix’s Top 10 list for four weeks before being overtaken by the new season of Bridgerton.
Okay, so I just finished watching His & Hers, and it’s really good! It’s based on a book by Alice Feeny and stars Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal. The story follows Anna, a journalist who’s been kind of isolating herself, and a murder back in her hometown pulls her out of that funk. She goes back to this small town called Dahlonega, and things get complicated because the detective investigating the murder is actually her estranged husband, Jack Harper. He’s instantly suspicious of why she’s back, and she ends up right in the middle of his investigation. It’s a really gripping watch!
His & Hers Failed to Impress
Although the show attracted a large audience, it was poorly received by both viewers and critics. Many found the ending nonsensical and the acting weak. It received low scores on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 68% rating from critics and only 62% from audiences. Justin Rowles of Pajiba criticized the ending, stating that a bizarre twist undermined the entire six-episode story and made most of it pointless.
Viewers who loved the original book were also let down by the Netflix series, feeling it changed the story so much that it barely resembled the source material. One viewer explained, “It was a disappointment because it differed so greatly from the book. If I hadn’t read the book first, I probably would have enjoyed the show more.”
As a big mystery fan, I really wanted to love His & Hers. It had a fantastic cast – the kind you expect in a really great, complex thriller. But honestly, it just left me feeling… empty. The ending was a total mess, and it felt like everyone involved was just there to collect a paycheck. The story wandered all over the place with no real payoff, and what could have been a huge success for Thompson and Bernthal ended up feeling forced and confusing. It’s not surprising it quickly dropped out of the number one spot once Bridgerton returned!
