The new thriller, featuring stars from the Marvel universe, has quickly become a huge hit on Netflix. It’s already been viewed for nearly 90 million hours, making it the most popular title on the platform, according to FlixPatrol. Although critics haven’t loved it, audiences clearly can’t get enough.
The film His & Hers, adapted from Alice Feeny’s novel, features Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal. It follows Anna, a journalist who has withdrawn from the world, but is drawn back into things when a murder occurs in her hometown. Returning to Dahlonega, she reconnects with Detective Jack Harper, who finds her sudden reappearance suspicious and makes her a key part of his investigation.
His & Hers Had a Ton of Potential, But Didn’t Live Up
The limited series hasn’t been a hit with either critics or viewers. It received a 67% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but only a 60% from general audiences. Reviews have been largely negative, with Tell-Tale TV giving it a 2.25 out of 5 stars and calling it a “hot mess” filled with plot problems and predictable endings. The Playlist described it as initially captivating, but ultimately lacking depth and feeling superficial.
Viewers who weren’t invested in the show were even more critical. One person said they stopped watching after just half of the first episode, questioning whether it was meant to be a parody. They described it as predictable and cheesy, noting that it looked nice but lacked substance, and jokingly suggested the script could have been generated by an AI using cliché prompts. They gave it a 1 out of 5 star rating. Another viewer gave it 2 stars, criticizing the show for mistaking slow pacing for intelligence and sadness for depth. They felt the disconnected storyline and reliance on stereotypes insulted the audience, particularly in its portrayal of grief. While the sixth episode offered a clever twist, they argued that having to sit through six hours for just ten minutes of good content doesn’t make it quality television – it just requires a lot of patience.
Ultimately, His & Hers showed potential, but didn’t quite become a successful or noteworthy contribution to its genre.
