I’m really excited because the second season of the live-action One Piece is almost here on Netflix! What’s great is how faithful the show has been to the original story – Eiichiro Oda is heavily involved as a producer, and the team clearly loves the source material. However, they have made a few changes, and one is a big surprise. They’re bringing in a major character much earlier than they appeared in the manga, and Netflix has already given us a look at them in action. It’s a really interesting twist!
Spoiler Alert! If you don’t want to find out about a surprise appearance in the new season of Netflix’s One Piece, stop reading now. Rumors have been circulating online that a future member of the Straw Hat crew has already been cast, and those rumors are now true. Brook, the musician who later becomes a skeleton, will be appearing early in the live-action series, even though his storyline isn’t reached until much later. Netflix has decided to introduce Brook now, but he’ll be shown as a human, played by Martial T. Batchamen. You can see the first look at the live-action version of Brook below.

How Does Brook Appear in the Live-Action One Piece Early?

It seems likely Brook will appear in the second season of Netflix’s One Piece, based on what’s been shown so far. Netflix has released trailers and promotional content revealing that the whale Laboon will be a significant character. Laboon encounters the Straw Hat crew early in their Grand Line adventure and has a connection to Brook, though this wasn’t revealed when Laboon first appeared in the original manga and anime.
Brook was among the first pirates to meet Laboon, the whale, and they used to entertain him with songs and music during a stop on their journey. When the pirates had to leave, Laboon became deeply saddened, repeatedly crashing into cliffs while waiting for them to come back. While Luffy’s crew would eventually find Laboon, they didn’t actually meet Brook at that time – their paths crossed later in their adventures.
It’s unclear if Brook will appear as a skeleton in the live-action series, likely only through flashbacks. Given that Tony Tony Chopper will be created with CGI, it’s reasonable to expect the same approach for Brook if he’s introduced. Hopefully, Netflix’s One Piece lasts long enough to reach the Thriller Bark arc where Brook is first introduced.
