Please be aware that this article contains spoilers from the One Piece manga! It’s been a month since the release of Season 2 of Netflix’s live-action One Piece, and it’s once again earning rave reviews from both fans and critics. Following the huge success of Season 1 in August 2023, Season 2 continues the Straw Hat crew’s adventures as they enter the dangerous Grand Line. Good news for fans – Season 3 has already been confirmed and is expected to arrive next year! As the crew explores new islands, Season 2 introduces popular characters from the original story, like Nico Robin, Princess Vivi, and Tony Tony Chopper. While the live-action series stays true to the heart of the manga, it doesn’t follow the story exactly.
A key reason the beloved character Karoo wasn’t in the second season has been revealed. Karoo is Princess Vivi’s pet duck and companion, first appearing in the Whiskey Peak Arc of the original manga. While Vivi was secretly working with Baroque Works, Karoo was always with her. However, the live-action adaptation left the charming duck out, and a producer has now explained the decision.
One Piece‘s Karoo Will Appear in Live-Action Season 3

Joe Trancz and Becky Clements, the producers of the series, recently spoke with IGN about what’s coming up, including how the show differs from the original manga. They addressed fan concerns about Karoo not appearing in Season 2, with Trancz clarifying that Karoo was actually written into an early version of the season. “We wrote Karoo into Season 2. Karoo was originally in our first draft of Season 2,” he explained.
He explained that he didn’t originally intend to remove the character Karoo, as he liked them, but ultimately decided it was necessary to emphasize the gravity of the situation. He added that it felt unrealistic for Vivi to go undercover with her duck from Alabasta, and that it made the villainous organization, Baroque Works, seem less intelligent and capable than intended.
Trancz shared that Karoo, a character from the series, is represented by a bakery cart in the Whiskey Peak arc. To keep Karoo present even though he isn’t physically with Vivi on this part of her journey, they made sure she mentioned him. During the scene with the dinosaur, they emphasized their affection for Karoo to reassure fans he hadn’t been forgotten. He will reappear later in the Alabasta arc.
Although the decision to hold off on bringing the character back in Season 2 ultimately benefited the story, producers aren’t writing him off completely. Instead of appearing in the second season, the character is mentioned as being back home, hinting that he could return in Season 3.
Karoo Is One of The Most Delightful Characters in The Alabasta Saga

Karoo is a swift, bird-like vehicle commonly used for travel in the kingdom of Alabasta. When Vivi discovers her kingdom is under attack by a powerful Warlord, she goes undercover within the criminal organization Baroque Works. Throughout this risky mission, Karoo remains a loyal companion, frequently assisting her even in the most perilous moments.
Karoo quickly becomes a close friend to the Straw Hat Pirates, joining them on their adventures and fighting alongside them to protect the kingdom. While not a central character, Karoo is a fan favorite thanks to his cute design and ability to add a bit of humor to the story.
