Netflix’s Record-Breaking 7-Part TV Show Is Taking Over the U.S. on Streaming (& There’s More To Come)

Netflix started 2026 strong, immediately releasing the final season of its popular show, Stranger Things. They followed that up with several major releases, including Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, War Machine, and the second season of One Piece. However, their newest hit series is particularly noteworthy, especially considering its potential for future success.

The popular Netflix series Virgin River recently finished its seventh season and has been the most-watched show on Netflix for the past two weeks. It climbed to the top of the charts, surpassing other hits like Beauty in Black, WWE Raw, One Piece, and Age of Attraction, as well as the concert film BTS The Comeback Live. Excitingly for fans, Virgin River has already been renewed for an eighth season, which will make it Netflix’s longest-running original scripted drama.

Virgin River Has Quietly Become A Monster Hit, And The Show’s Not Slowing Down

After being renewed for season 8, Virgin River will become Netflix’s longest-running original scripted series. Both Grace and Frankie and Orange Is the New Black each lasted for 7 seasons. While Grace and Frankie has more total episodes (94 to Virgin River’s 84), Virgin River’s hour-long format gives it a total of 70 hours of content, exceeding Grace and Frankie’s 45 hours. Virgin River will also have more episodes than the Spanish drama Elite (84 to 64), even though Elite has already aired 8 seasons.

Based on the beloved books by Robyn Carr, Virgin River has become a major success for Netflix. The show features a talented cast, including Alexandra Breckenridge as Mel, Martin Henderson as Jack, Colin Lawrence as Preacher, Annette O’Toole as Hope, Tim Matheson as Doc, Benjamin Hollingsworth as Dan, and Zibby Allen as Brie. While the relationship between Mel and Jack has always been central to the story, seasons 6 and 7 delivered especially memorable moments that viewers had been eagerly anticipating.

Season 6 culminated in Jack and Mel’s wedding, and Season 7 explored their life as a married couple and how that changed their relationship. Although they were enjoying newlywed bliss, the season also introduced some difficulties that will carry over into Season 8, which will again have 10 episodes.

All seven seasons of Virgin River are currently streaming on Netflix. Season 8 is planned, but we don’t yet know when it will be released.
