Netflix’s Stranger Things Replacement Reveals First Trailer (It’s Scarier Than Anything in the Upside Down)

As much as I’m sad to see Stranger Things end, it’s cool to know the Duffer Brothers aren’t leaving Netflix completely! They’ve got a deal with Paramount now, but they’re still developing some exciting new shows for the streamer. I’m especially intrigued by the animated Stranger Things spinoff, Tales From ’85. And get this – they’re also creating a thriller called The Boroughs with an amazing cast – Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, and Bill Pullman! Both of those are coming to Netflix later this year, so I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out.

The creators of Stranger Things, The Duffer Brothers and their production company Upside Down Pictures, are releasing a new horror series called Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen. The show, created by Haley Z. Boston, centers around a couple’s stressful week leading up to their wedding. Netflix has now released the first trailer and announced the premiere date: March 26th. While still a horror series, this project appears to be quite different from Stranger Things.

The new series, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, starring Camila Morrone (Daisy Jones & the Six) and Adam DiMarco (The White Lotus), lives up to its ominous title. While the initial trailer doesn’t reveal much about the story, it does hint at a dark and unsettling atmosphere. Although the Duffer Brothers (known for Stranger Things) are involved, this series feels more akin to the horror film Hereditary than their previous work. It’s positive that the team is branching out, and it’s important for them to show audiences that not everything they create will be exactly like Stranger Things.

A key difference between Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen and Stranger Things lies in the direction. This new series is helmed by Weronika Tofilska, who recently directed the acclaimed Baby Reindeer (and earned an Emmy nomination for it), bringing a distinct visual style unlike anything seen in Hawkins, Indiana. Interestingly, there’s a connection to Stranger Things: Kate Trefry, a writer and playwright involved with that show, also contributed to the writing of Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen.

The upcoming series, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, boasts a talented cast, even with just a brief glimpse in the teaser trailer. Alongside stars Morrone and DiMarco, the show features Jennifer Jason Leigh (known from Fast Times at Ridgemont High) and Ted Levine (The Silence of the Lambs). Fans may also recognize Zlatko Burić, who played President Vasil Ghurkos in James Gunn’s Superman.
