Netflix’s ‘Yellowstone’-esque ‘Ransom Canyon’ Will Only Have 8 Episodes in Season 2

The series immediately immersed viewers in a dramatic, Western-style world reminiscent of Yellowstone. Despite receiving a mixed reception when it first aired, it was quickly picked up for a second season. However, it appears the upcoming season will be shorter, as one of the show’s stars has confirmed there will be fewer episodes than in the first season.

Kelly’s new Christmas romance, Champagne Problems, is currently the most popular movie on Netflix. She recently chatted with Entertainment Tonight about her life away from filming, while taking a break from shooting Ransom Canyon.

We’re filming right now, and it’s been a lot of fun! This season is shaping up to be really good – I think we all agree it’s even better than previous ones. They’ve shortened it to eight episodes instead of ten, which has made the storylines much tighter and more focused.

This season has a lot going on. It’s also much lighter and funnier, which I really appreciate. That humor provides a welcome break from the often intense and serious moments.

We have some new characters this season that I think people are really going to love.”

‘Ranson Canyon’ Is on a Rocky Road

As a longtime follower of Ransom Canyon, I’m starting to get a little concerned about Season 2. This isn’t the first bit of news that’s had fans worried. We already heard rumblings back in September that two of our main guys, Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner – who played the father-son duo Davis and Reid – might not be series regulars this time around. While it hasn’t been officially confirmed, it looks like they may only appear in guest roles, if at all. It’s definitely a shift from what we saw in Season 1, and I’m hoping it doesn’t impact the show’s dynamic too much.

While the actors in Ransom Canyon insist it’s unique, it’s clear the show was created due to the success of Yellowstone and the growing world of Taylor Sheridan’s shows on Paramount+. Jack Schumacher, one of the stars, previously discussed this with MovieWeb.

What’s really good about ‘Ransom’ is that it doesn’t try to imitate ‘Yellowstone.’ It’s its own unique show, especially with a stronger focus on romance. Viewers won’t feel like they’re watching a copycat; it creates its own world. I think that’s a relief for many people going into it, as they might expect it to be similar to ‘Yellowstone,’ but they’ll likely be happily surprised that it’s not.

Critics weren’t very impressed with the first season of Ransom Canyon, giving it a score of only 45%. However, viewers enjoyed it much more, with a 73% rating. While the show attracted a good number of viewers, it didn’t become a massive hit like some other recent series. Ransom Canyon has been filming since September and is scheduled to be released on Netflix in 2026. Its future beyond that will likely depend on how well the new season is received.
