A new Apple TV+ series is facing trouble and has been removed from the platform just days before it was set to launch. The show is being accused of plagiarism, and Apple TV+ seems to be taking these claims seriously. While similar stories happen occasionally, the parallels between this series and another work are strikingly close.
Cédric Anger, the creator and director of the new French show The Hunt, is facing accusations of plagiarism. Clement Garin, a source in the French media, claims the show’s plot was taken from Douglas Fairbairn’s 1973 novel, Shoot, which was also made into a film in 1976 with the same title.
The Similarities Between The Two Are More Than Obvious

Gaumont, the production company behind the series The Hunt, has paused its release while they investigate concerns about its originality. They stated they take intellectual property issues very seriously. The plot of The Hunt centers around Franck and his friends, who find themselves unexpectedly targeted by another group of hunters during a weekend outing. After a violent confrontation and a narrow escape, Franck and his friends try to keep the incident secret, but Franck begins to suspect they are being hunted for revenge. The similarities between this story and another are significant.
The movie Shoot shares similar themes with other action films, but tells a longer, more detailed story. It centers on Rex, a very confident hunter, and his four friends who go on a hunting trip in the Canadian wilderness. Their trip is interrupted when another group of hunters shoots at them, grazing one of Rex’s companions. A member of Rex’s group shoots back, killing one of the other hunters. Instead of calling the police, Rex assumes the other group will keep quiet, and tries to confirm this by finding the dead man’s widow. She claims her husband was killed by a stray bullet, but Rex remains convinced the other hunters will seek revenge. He decides to return to the scene of the shooting the following Saturday, anticipating a confrontation. Rex gathers a large group of armed friends to accompany him. On the day, they venture into the snowy forest, which appears empty at first. However, Rex’s prediction proves correct, and a gunfight eventually erupts.
The series, known as The Hunt or Traqués, features Damien Bonnard, Manuel Guillot, Cédric Appietto, Angelyna Danabe Mignot, Paul Beaurepaire, Yann Goven, Sarah Pachoud, and Patrick de Vallette. It was scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, December 3rd.
