At CinemaCon on April 17th, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, shared details about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He revealed that the first major event will be Avengers: Doomsday this December, bringing together several hero teams – including the New Avengers (previously known as the Thunderbolts), Sam Wilson’s Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the Wakandans – to defeat Doctor Doom. The X-Men will also appear, attempting to prevent a catastrophic event that threatens their world. Feige’s comments also hinted at the long-rumored next film, Avengers: Secret Wars.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige discussed the upcoming two-part Avengers films and hinted at how the concept of ‘Incursions’ will play a role. He explained that while these new movies will connect to each other, the relationship will be different from the way Infinity War and Endgame were linked. Feige also described the upcoming Secret Wars as their most ambitious project yet.
Avengers: Doomsday Will Almost Surely Destroy the Multiverse

Most signs point to the next Avengers movie, likely titled Doomsday, setting up the events that will cause the destruction of the Multiverse through something called Incursions. According to Marvel boss Kevin Feige, the story will follow a similar path to a comic book arc called “Time Runs Out,” but with some changes, much like how Avengers: Infinity War differed from its comic book counterpart. Instead of the collision happening between the main Marvel universe and the alternate Ultimate universe, it will be between the world of the X-Men and the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. This will probably mark the end of the X-Men storylines from the Fox movies and lead to the introduction of new X-Men characters within the MCU.
Feige explained that the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday is heavily inspired by a well-known comic book storyline where universes and timelines collide. This allows them to bring together actors from various franchises. The CinemaCon trailer showed characters like Mystique battling Yelena Belova, and Channing Tatum’s Gambit fighting Shang-Chi. There’s also speculation that Cyclops and Sam Wilson’s Captain America will be involved in the conflict. Essentially, the movie’s central battle—Avengers versus X-Men—is similar to the ‘616 vs. Ultimates’ storyline that led to the end of the world in the comics.
The film will merge several universes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe – Earth-616 (the main MCU timeline), Earth-828 (home of the Fantastic Four), and Earth-10005 (where the X-Men exist). The story revolves around various factions battling each other, ultimately leading to a confrontation with Doctor Doom. Interestingly, Doom is the only one with a plan to save any version of the world, and this will set the stage for Avengers: Secret Wars. Kevin Feige has stated the film will feel similar to Infinity War but with key differences. Unlike Infinity War, where half of all life was erased, this time the conflict won’t involve mass death. Instead, Doom will emerge victorious and reshape the world according to his vision, with a place called Battleworld serving as the primary setting for Secret Wars.
