New Batman Animated Series Releases Its Opening: Watch

For decades, Batman has been a huge success in movies, TV, and comic books. While Bruce Wayne continues to defend Gotham City in the comics, the character has consistently battled his famous enemies on screen. A new animated series is coming to Amazon Prime Video later this month, and a preview of the intro has been released to build excitement. Traditionally, Batman teams up with sidekicks like Robin, Nightwing, and Batgirl, but this new series will introduce some surprising new allies for the Dark Knight’s latest adventure.

The new animated series, Bat-Fam, arrives on Amazon Prime Video November 10th, continuing the story from the 2023 film Merry Little Batman. The show focuses on Damien Wayne, but instead of being Robin, he’ll be operating as “Little Batman.” Along with Damien, viewers will see characters like Claire Selton (Volcana), Alicia Pennyworth, and Kirk Langstrom (Man-Bat). Adding to the mix is the surprising appearance of R’as Al Ghul as a ghost, who will be a complicated, sometimes friendly, presence within Wayne Manor. You can watch an introductory video below.

The Uniqueness of Bat-Fam

Fans of DC comics will notice that Bat-Fam has a distinct look compared to previous Batman animated series. The Amazon show uses a lively animation style and seems geared toward a younger audience, focusing on Bruce Wayne’s efforts to build a new, unconventional family while still fighting crime. With ten episodes planned, Bat-Fam is boldly exploring a fresh concept, but it’s not the only Batman project Amazon has in the works. Another series is also in development, promising a much grimmer and more serious portrayal of the Dark Knight than Bat-Fam.

The animated series Batman: The Caped Crusader is returning for a second season with a significantly darker tone. The first season ended with a strong suggestion that the Joker will be a major villain in the upcoming episodes, causing trouble for Bruce Wayne. While season one reimagined characters like Harley Quinn and the Penguin, the Joker was notably absent. The finale teased his arrival, showing him preparing to make his debut in a shadowy scene. Though other animated series have featured their own versions of the Joker, Caped Crusader promises a more mature and menacing take on the iconic villain.
