The anime Black Clover is getting a big update for its second season, and the new director has shared a message with fans about it. After the original manga by Yuki Tabata finished earlier this year, the anime will return after a five-year break – but with some changes to how it’s made. This marks a fresh start for the series.
I’m so excited for Black Clover Season 2! There’s a change behind the camera this time – Ayataka Tanemura is taking over as director. You might remember him directing some of the later episodes of season one and the awesome Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King movie. He even shared a message saying they’re working incredibly hard to make this new season even better, and he included some fantastic new art of Asta! I can’t wait to see what he brings to the show.
Black Clover Season 2 Director Shares New Message to Fans

Director Tanemura shared an exciting message for Black Clover fans before Season 2: “I’m directing again!” He promised Asta and the other characters will be even stronger this time, after a long wait. The team is working hard to deliver amazing new adventures, and fans can look forward to it with confidence – Tanemura knows the series well, and its return likely has been in development for some time.
The first season of Black Clover ended in 2021 after 170 episodes, and fans have been waiting for its return ever since. The anime had to pause production because it was catching up to the ongoing manga story, but that’s no longer an issue. The manga has now finished its 11-year run, giving the anime team the freedom to fully adapt the last two story arcs without worrying about staying ahead of the source material.
When Does Black Clover Season 2 Come Out?

Ayataka Tanemura is directing this season at Studio Pierrot, with Keiichiro Ochi writing the scripts, Itsuko Takeda and Kumiko Tokunaga designing the characters, and Minako Seki composing the music.
The first episode of Black Clover Season 2 will premiere early at Anime Expo 2026 this July. The panel will feature voice actors Tanemura and Gakuto Kajiwara (Asta), who will share details and behind-the-scenes information.
