The popular anime series Code Geass is preparing a brand new installment, and it’s shaping up to be quite different from previous entries. As the franchise approaches the 20th anniversary of the original TV anime, the creators have been actively celebrating and planning for the future. This includes a ten-year plan to revitalize the series with a variety of new releases, and we’ve already seen some exciting developments. Now, a completely new project is on the horizon.
To mark its 20th anniversary, the popular series Code Geass is planning new projects, including a brand-new anime called Code Geass: Aspar the Star Chaser (the English title is still being finalized). While details are still scarce, fans recently got a first glimpse of the new anime, which you can view below.
What Is Code Geass’ New Anime?

As of today, there’s no confirmed release date for Code Geass: Aspar the Star Chaser. It’s also unclear whether the new project will be a TV series, a collection of OVAs, or a movie. Given the franchise’s history of releasing projects in all those formats, it could be any of them. However, the team working on the anime has been announced, which is good news for fans.
Kazuya Nomura will direct the new anime film, Code Geass: Aspar the Star Chaser, for Bandai Namco Filmworks. Mado Nozaki is writing the screenplay, with Rolua designing the characters and Yoshi. creating the designs for Agarmatha. Junbun Lin will handle the special effects, and Ichinogi created the title design. More staff details and information will be announced soon, as Code Geass celebrates a major anniversary with this new project.
What’s Next for Code Geass’ Anniversary?
Beyond the new anime, a lot more is happening for the 20th anniversary of Code Geass. Manga artist Tomofumi Ogasawara is creating a crossover manga featuring characters from Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (which recently turned 30!), and a new stage play, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion – A Knight Who Follows His Beliefs 2, will be performed in Japan next year. Fans can also look forward to a special 20th anniversary exhibition opening in Fall 2026.
Though Code Geass originally aired twenty years ago, it’s remained popular far longer than many initial fans anticipated. The first season had a definitive ending, so it was unexpected to discover so many new stories could still be told. Plus, various spin-offs and expanded content have continued to enrich the series’ universe.
