New Doctor Doom Report Confirms Appearance of Iconic Marvel Location (& It’s Perfect)

Doctor Doom is officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, and with him comes his famous castle. While he briefly appeared after the credits of Fantastic Four: First Steps alongside Franklin Richards, his role in Avengers: Doomsday will be much larger – he’s set to be a major villain, likely second in command to the bigger threat of the Incursions. This will finally give fans a look at Castle Doom, his iconic home from the comics.

I’ve been following the buzz about where they filmed Castle Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, and it’s gotten a little confusing! It looks like some scenes were definitely shot in Scotland, but there’s a new rumor going around that Alton Towers theme park was also used. Apparently, they filmed there to get footage for the background of Castle Doom – you know, like a digital landscape behind the actual set. A lot of people thought they built the castle at Alton Towers, but it’s just for the background visuals, not the main filming location!

Recent reports confirm that Alton Towers was used as a filming location for the upcoming movie ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. Filming took place earlier this year, and the theme park is believed to have stood in for ‘Castle Doom’, the base of operations for the villain Doctor Doom, representing the fictional country of Latveria.

Kevin Feige Talks Bringing Doctor Doom Back for Avengers: Doomsday

It would be amazing to feature Alton Towers as the setting for Doctor Doom’s castle in the movie. The theme park perfectly captures the look and feel of Latveria, and using it would save a lot of money and effort – there’d be no need to build a huge set or rely heavily on computer-generated imagery. While Doom’s Castle itself might be filmed elsewhere, digitally adding Alton Towers as a backdrop – and perhaps even filming some approach scenes there – would be a fantastic choice.

At CinemaCon, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige explained to Entertainment Weekly how they decided to introduce Doctor Doom and bring back Robert Downey Jr. – even after his years as Iron Man. Feige said, “It’s our universe, and with the multiverse, we have endless possibilities.” He added that since Downey Jr. played the most famous hero, they wanted him to play the most famous villain.

Kevin Feige discussed portraying Doctor Doom with depth, highlighting his flaws and vulnerabilities to create a compelling character instead of just a powerful villain. This approach is similar to how Thanos was developed in previous Marvel Cinematic Universe films, and they’re hoping to achieve the same success with Doom. At CinemaCon, the new trailer featured Robert Downey Jr.’s first lines as Doctor Doom, showcasing a battle with Thor. It’s currently unknown whether this fight took place alongside the events of Thor: Love and Thunder, or if Thor traveled to Doom’s home country of Latveria for the confrontation.

It looks like Doctor Doom isn’t just joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe – his country, Latveria, will be a significant part of the story too. We’ll likely see his castle and locations inspired by Alton Towers. Showing Doom in his home country will be a huge step up from how he’s been portrayed in previous Fantastic Four films, and it suggests the MCU is getting everything right with this iconic villain for Avengers: Doomsday.
