New Donkey Kong Movie Leaked by Universal

It looks like Universal is developing a fresh Donkey Kong film, and with video game adaptations becoming increasingly popular, it seems that the 2020s could see Hollywood reaping the rewards much like comic book and superhero movies did in the previous decades. Previous attempts at adapting games have been met with criticism for misusing their source material, but recent successes suggest that the industry has finally cracked the code. This renewed interest in game adaptations has encouraged companies like Nintendo to venture into the film industry.

For decades, I, as a dedicated gamer, have witnessed Nintendo’s hesitance towards film adaptations due to past disastrous attempts that tarnished their reputation. The live-action Mario movie was one such disaster, labeled as one of the worst video game movies ever produced. After its failure, it seemed like Nintendo decided to channel all their efforts into creating exceptional games instead.

However, the winds of change came with the 2023 release of the animated “Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which raked in over a billion dollars and resonated with young viewers. Although it didn’t win critical acclaim, it was good enough to make a difference. Now, here we are, looking forward to a sequel of the “Super Mario Bros. Movie” and a live-action Legend of Zelda film! It’s exciting times for us gamers!

New Donkey Kong Movie Appears to Be in the Works

The Mario sequel is scheduled for spring 20XX, and the Zelda movie is aiming for a May 2027 premiere, but Nintendo has more films up its sleeve. Recent copyright filings hint at a brand-new Donkey Kong movie in collaboration with Universal Pictures and Nintendo Pictures. Although it hasn’t been officially announced yet, it appears that this film will be revealed soon. Additionally, the game “Donkey Kong Bananza” is set to launch for the Nintendo Switch 2 on July 17th, which could potentially coincide with the announcement of this upcoming movie.

It seems highly unlikely that this event is just a coincidence and it’s quite possible that it might occur in an upcoming Nintendo Direct. Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo hasn’t held another full-fledged Direct, leaving some fans eager to discover new games for the console. This unnamed Donkey Kong movie, as per its copyright listing, could be a hint that it’s still in development and not yet ready for announcement, which might make it the “one more thing” during the Nintendo Direct.

As a die-hard fan, I’m pretty sure we’re in for an animated ride with Donkey Kong, given his cameo in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” With Seth Rogen lending his voice to the character, it’s safe to assume he’ll return for this spin-off film. The future is uncertain, but the prospect of Nintendo bringing more of their video game worlds to life has me pumped up!
