New Evil Dead Spinoff Reveals Creepy First BTS Look

The ancient text known as the Necronomicon is set to cause further chaos, with French filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček’s spinoff of the Evil Dead series, titled Evil Dead Burn, now in production. This was confirmed by Vaniček himself on Instagram, where he shared two behind-the-scenes photos and wrote “Day 1 from 83 to NZ.” The upcoming film will be the sixth installment in the franchise, which was initially brought to life by Sam Raimi with the 1981 horror classic, The Evil Dead, featuring Bruce Campbell. Directed by Vaniček, who collaborated on the screenplay with Florent Bernard, Evil Dead Burn features Luciane Buchanan (from The Night Agent), Hunter Doohan (Wednesday), Souheila Yacoub (Dune: Part Two), and Tandi Wright (Pearl) in its cast.

I had the incredible opportunity to step into the director’s chair for the first time with the 2023 French blockbuster, “Infested,” a chilling creature feature I also co-wrote alongside my filmmaking partner Bernard. Details about my take on the highly anticipated “Evil Dead” sequel are being tightly guarded, but I’ve previously hinted at the unique direction we’re taking for this project.

In a conversation with ComicBook in 2024, Vaniček recounted, “The initial question from Sam Raimi and his crew was, ‘What would be your take on Evil Dead?’ The use of ‘your’ suggested some creative autonomy, which I grasped immediately. I recognized the title Evil Dead, and I thought, ‘If this is Evil Dead, I’ll approach it in this manner to delve into these aspects.’ They appreciated my response, and that’s why they entrusted me with this project.

He went on to say, ‘However, I admire what Sam Raimi accomplished. As a young man with a camera, he dared to do something audacious by including numerous shocking and unconventional shots. This resonates with me because I was that guy who made films without any resources or funding… Similarly, Fede Álvarez’s vision in 2013 stood out when he decided to approach the Evil Dead movie in a more realistic manner due to the audience maturing, aiming for something less humorous and more grounded. I’m considering creating a work that honors both these perspectives – a gritty, moving film that challenges you, leaving you questioning yourself as you leave the theater.’
