2026 promises many exciting films, but this year, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is already generating significant buzz. Following his Oscar-winning success with Oppenheimer, Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s classic story features a fantastic cast and promises a truly spectacular cinematic experience. Attendees at CinemaCon in Las Vegas are currently getting a first look at footage from the film.
Universal showed off new clips at the event, including a particularly exciting sequence featuring the Trojan Horse. While the footage isn’t available to the public yet, reporters at the event have provided a detailed description, and it sounds like the most impressive take on this famous story we’ve seen so far. Here’s a full account of what they described.
New Footage from The Odyssey Screened at CinemaCon

The latest preview of The Odyssey opens with Odysseus (Matt Damon) shipwrecked, speaking with Calypso (Charlize Theron). He expresses his sadness about being lost and wonders how old his son, Telemachus, must be now. We then see a flashback where Menelaus (Jon Bernthal) tells Telemachus (Tom Holland) the story of the Trojan Horse from his perspective. Another flashback shows the Trojan Horse being brought into the city of Troy. Soldiers pierce the horse to search for anyone hidden inside, and when they find a man, his companions quickly silence him to avoid detection. Later, under the cover of darkness, Odysseus carefully pulls the man from inside the horse. A Trojan soldier raises the alarm as the Greek soldiers emerge and head through the city gates. Menelaus readies his bow, and Odysseus begins to fight off the Trojan soldiers. The gates swing open, revealing an army waiting to invade Troy, including Agamemnon (Benny Safdie).
Menelaus continues his story to Telemachus, implying Telemachus likely knows what happens next. The story then quickly shows a series of events, including Odysseus’s shipwreck. We see the cyclops Polyphemus reaching for Odysseus, but instead grabs and kills one of Odysseus’s men, whose final moment is a terrifying scream.
Charlize Theron Revealed to be Playing Calypso
A recent sneak peek from CinemaCon suggests Charlize Theron is actually playing the character Calypso, not Circe as previously believed. This is a surprising twist for the upcoming film, which is based on Homer’s The Odyssey, and shows that director Christopher Nolan may have some unexpected elements planned for the story.
The Odyssey opens in theaters July 17th.
