New Friday the 13th Movie Rumor Teases a Huge Change to Jason Voorhees

More than 16 years have passed since the last Friday the 13th film, and while the series has been stalled by legal problems, it seems to be progressing again. This summer, the owners of the rights announced they can finally return to Camp Crystal Lake and showcase Jason Voorhees’s terror once more. Recently, a prominent creative individual has expressed interest in working on the franchise, which could significantly improve the quality of the slasher films.

I was really excited to read that Adam Scherr – you probably know him as Braun Strowman from WWE – is potentially in talks to play Jason Voorhees! He told Collider that discussions are happening through his agency. He said, “There may be some talks about it with people that I know and my agency. If we could ever get everybody to get back on the same page and allow the things to work, I might be the next Voorhees.” Honestly, if he gets the role, it would be amazing! It would set a Friday the 13th record and, given his size, really take the character to new heights – literally!

Braun Strowman as Jason Voorhees Could Upgrade the Killer, Literally

Despite being famous as a towering and frightening figure, Jason Voorhees isn’t actually very tall in most of the films. Kane Hodder, the actor and stuntman who played Jason in four movies, is 6’2″ tall. Richard Brooker, who played Jason in Friday the 13th Part III, was 6’3″. More recently, Ken Kirzinger (Freddy vs Jason) and Derek Mears (Friday the 13th – 2009) both stood 6’5″ while playing the role. If the rumors are true and Scherr takes on the iconic hockey mask, he’ll be the tallest actor to ever portray Jason Voorhees, measuring 6’8″.

Kane Hodder, who played Jason Voorhees in previous films, hinting at discussions about potentially reprising the role for a new movie is the most significant news we’ve heard about the Friday the 13th series recently. While a brief clip was released earlier this year, it was also announced that new films were in development. However, there haven’t been any further announcements since then-no information about potential directors or the story’s direction. Considering this, even if Kane Hodder’s comments lead to something, it’s still uncertain when a new Friday the 13th movie might actually begin production.

What We Know About New Friday the 13th Movies

Information about a new Friday the 13th film is limited, but we definitely know what Jason Voorhees will look like. This summer, Friday the 13th LLC and Horror, Inc. unveiled Jason Voorhees’ “new look,” which will be used in future installments. This updated design was created by a well-known name in the horror world: Greg Nicotero.

Nicotero previously told ComicBook that those in charge had a specific request for Jason’s new look: he wouldn’t be a decaying, undead killer anymore. Because of this, the team created a design inspired by Friday the 13th Part III, which first introduced the hockey mask to the franchise. However, things could still change significantly if a new movie is made, but one thing is certain: Jason will definitely be wearing his hockey mask.

Even with very little information about the upcoming Friday the 13th film, we’ve gotten a glimpse of what Adam Scherr (also known as Braun Strowman) will look like if he takes on the role of the killer and starts attacking those camp counselors.
