A fresh report about upcoming games from Dark Souls and Elden Ring enthusiasts emerged this week, hinting at possible details of an unidentified FromSoftware project called “FMC.” The report was light on specifics, but it’s suggested that the game will be playable across various platforms and may launch as early as next year. Although the true nature of the secretive “FMC” game remains uncertain, given that FromSoftware is currently working on only a few major series like Elden Ring and Armored Core, our speculation is limited.
The report under scrutiny, leaked by trusted source Kurakasis, hinted at a possible remake of “Dark Souls 3,” although no official confirmation has been given. This speculation is rooted in the distinctive font system used by FromSoftware for their games. So far, the letter ‘F’ has appeared only at the start of Dark Souls and Armored Core projects that are publicly known. Consequently, it was surmised that this could be a “Dark Souls 3” remake, as opposed to a new Armored Core project, considering the recent release of another series in the series.
There’s strong belief among Kurakasis that Project FMC may turn out to be a remake of Dark Souls 3, as its director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has previously expressed reluctance to continue the series. In a 2015 interview, Miyazaki referred to Dark Souls 3 as the “big closure” on the series. Additionally, there have been rumors about a remaster of Dark Souls 3 in development, which were reported during the November 16th episode of the XboxEra Podcast.
If the claim in the report is true that the game is deep into its development phase, then it’s logical to anticipate an official announcement might be made sooner, rather than later. Some people online even suggest that the Game Awards in December could be the perfect timing for this announcement. This high-profile event is closely watched by many in the industry, as it symbolizes a conclusion for the past year and a new beginning for the upcoming year.
In 2024, FromSoftware unveiled Elden Ring: Nightreign at the Game Awards, set to launch on May 30th of the following year. Following this pattern, it seems plausible that a new game from FromSoftware (FMC) could be announced at The Game Awards if it’s slated for release in 2026.
In addition to working on updates for Elden Ring: Nightreign, FromSoftware is simultaneously developing an exclusive game for the rumored Switch 2, titled The Duskbloods, with a projected release date in 2026.
In April, FromSoftware unveiled a detailed 5-minute trailer for The Duskbloods. This preview showcased aspects such as the storyline, mechanics, graphics, and gameplay. The visual and auditory elements of this game align perfectly with what one would anticipate from Miyazaki, who is renowned for his work on FromSoftware’s critically-acclaimed games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but wonder about the resources allocated to FromSoftware’s top-secret project, FMC. With their ongoing efforts in refining updates for Elden Ring: Nightrein and other ongoing projects, it seems they have quite a plate full. However, the enigma surrounding FMC only adds to the anticipation, and I can hardly wait for the day when its official unveiling will send ripples of excitement through the fan community.
