PlayStation is reportedly working on a new inFAMOUS project, which could be a brand-new game or a remake of a previous title, according to VGC’s Jordan Middler.
In a recent podcast, Middler hinted that a new inFAMOUS game is in development at PlayStation, but isn’t being created by Sucker Punch, the studio behind the original games. He mentioned he believes something is happening with the series ‘somewhere else’ within PlayStation.
So, a few hours after that podcast dropped, Greg Miller from Kinda Funny actually called me up on the Gamescast to ask about what I’d said. I told him it all comes down to just one source right now, and honestly, I haven’t been able to confirm anything yet. I’m still trying to get more info to back it up.
Middler believed the project was a PlayStation 5 remake of the two older PlayStation 3 games, based on what sources indicated, though this wasn’t explicitly stated. He also cautioned that the project might have been cancelled since he received the information, but that’s currently his understanding.
After a rumor surfaced recently, fans of the inFAMOUS series have been actively sharing their excitement on social media and Reddit. They’re hoping PlayStation will remake the original two games, a request the community has made for a long time.
The rumor has sparked debate among fans on Reddit, particularly within the inFAMOUS subreddit. One user, Sraffiti_G, expressed hope that the rumor is true, stating they would enjoy seeing remakes of the first two games or a new sequel to Second Son.
Look, I’m a bit worried. If Sucker Punch isn’t involved with any future stuff, I’m out. Honestly, I’ve kinda given up on a simple remaster of the first two games. They’re so old now that it would probably be cheaper to just rebuild them completely from scratch, you know?
In 2022, Sucker Punch stated they weren’t currently working on any new inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper games, and that no other studios were either. However, they left the possibility open for future projects, saying they wouldn’t rule out revisiting those franchises later on. That was four years ago, so plans could have changed.
Nate Fox, from Sucker Punch, recently expressed his enthusiasm for revisiting the inFAMOUS series. He’d be thrilled to see a collection of the first three games re-released, but the studio prefers to concentrate on completing their current project, Ghost of Yotei, before considering anything else.
Ghost of Yotei has since released and so too has its free Legends multiplayer mode.
Some PlayStation fans are starting to feel that the recent focus on online service games isn’t hitting the mark. A new installment in the inFAMOUS series, a dedicated single-player experience, would likely be very welcome for those who prefer that style of game.
