Monster Hunter Wilds, released in February 2025, quickly became popular on Steam, attracting both longtime fans and new players. It’s available on most platforms, excluding Nintendo Switch, but there are growing signs that a Switch version may be coming soon.
The new Switch 2 is expected to attract more large-scale RPGs to Nintendo consoles. The original Switch struggled to run many newer games due to its hardware limitations. Now, with the improved Switch 2, we’re already seeing major titles like a port of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Recent discoveries within the files for the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds update suggest the game might be coming to the next Nintendo Switch. Data miners found references to “NSW2” – likely shorthand for the new console – within the game’s code. This information surfaced around December 28th and has led to widespread speculation about a possible Switch 2 version of the game. While this is the strongest evidence so far, it isn’t the only hint suggesting a port could be in development.

Recent data mining has revealed potential evidence of a Switch 2, including what appears to be a user interface for local multiplayer. Translations of the original findings, originally posted in Chinese, suggest details about the upcoming Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds. The game is expected to support both local and wireless multiplayer, and aims for a 1080p resolution when the console is docked. However, there’s currently no information about how well the game will perform in handheld mode, which is causing some fans to worry it might run as badly as, or even worse than, the PC version.
Okay, so a lot of this is based on what dataminers have found and what people are guessing right now, so take it with a grain of salt. Capcom hasn’t officially said anything about bringing Monster Hunter Wilds to the Switch 2 yet. But the good news is they did just announce when we’re getting Title Update 4, which is awesome!

So, I was checking X (formerly Twitter) the other day, and Ryozo Tsujimoto, the producer for Monster Hunter, dropped some news about what they’ve got planned for 2026. The biggest thing? He announced that a major update for Monster Hunter Wilds is coming out on February 18th. And honestly, that date is making a lot of Nintendo fans, like me, pretty curious… it’s right around the time we’re all expecting news about the next Nintendo console!

Because code related to Switch 2 was found in a recent game update, Capcom might be planning to release the Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds with that update. This could mean the game arrives on February 18th. February is a popular time for Nintendo to launch new games, and it often includes the first Nintendo Direct presentation of the year – making it a perfect opportunity to announce Monster Hunter Wilds for the new console.
While nothing is official, the signs are pointing towards a new Switch console. It’s unclear if a Switch 2 will launch with the next major update in February, or even if it will launch at all.
