Though Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three isn’t out for another eight months, people are already excited about his next project: the 26th James Bond film. He signed on to direct it last summer, as Amazon MGM Studios takes over the iconic franchise. Villeneuve is known for creating visually stunning and captivating movies, so fans are eager to see his vision for 007. The biggest question right now is who will play James Bond, and recent reports suggest Amazon is considering a fresh approach to casting the role.
According to Variety, actor Louis Partridge, known for his role in House of Guinness, is a serious contender to be the next James Bond. It’s more than just a betting odds possibility – he’s a genuine candidate. While it’s still just speculation, if Partridge is being considered, it indicates Amazon is looking for a much younger Bond than previous actors. At 23 years old, he would be considerably younger than any Bond actor was when they first took on the role.
| Actor | Age When First Bond Film Premiered |
| Sean Connery | 32 |
| George Lazenby | 30 |
| Roger Moore | 45 |
| Timothy Dalton | 41 |
| Pierce Brosnan | 42 |
| Daniel Craig | 38 |
A Young James Bond Makes Sense for Amazon’s Reboot

The next James Bond film, currently known as James Bond 26, doesn’t have a release date yet, and production won’t really begin until Denis Villeneuve finishes Dune 3. If Tom Partridge gets the role, he’d be over 23 by the time his first Bond movie comes out, but he’d still be the youngest actor ever to play 007 in the series’ 64-year history—unless the film is delayed for a very long time, which is unlikely. While the studio was expected to cast a younger actor, Partridge seems a bit younger than most people anticipated. Last fall, reports suggested they were looking for a British actor in his late 20s or early 30s.
The news that George Partridge might be cast as James Bond will likely spark debate about whether the producers are choosing someone too young. However, it’s important to remember the production timeline for Bond 26. Partridge wouldn’t be playing a very young Bond; he’d likely be in his mid-to-late 20s by the time filming and release happen. This fits the age range previously reported. He also offers a “fresh face” – he has some acting experience, but isn’t yet a major star, which means audiences wouldn’t have strong preconceived notions about him in the role.
Choosing a younger actor for James Bond is a smart move. Amazon likely wants the new Bond to star in several films over the next few years – previous actors like Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig each appeared in four or five movies. It’s easier to achieve that long-term vision with someone in their 20s, allowing them to develop with the role and maintain the character’s physical requirements throughout the series. This approach would allow the films to show Bond’s journey from a new MI6 agent to a seasoned, experienced spy.
The recent James Bond films with Daniel Craig tried to show Bond’s evolution, starting with Casino Royale as his origin story and earning his license to kill. However, this idea wasn’t fully developed. By Skyfall, the focus shifted to an aging Bond trying to prove he still had what it takes. While Skyfall was a compelling and insightful film about the Bond franchise itself, it felt abrupt to see Craig’s Bond go from a rookie agent to nearing retirement so quickly. It seemed like there were many adventures missing from his backstory. Casting a younger actor, perhaps in their twenties, could allow audiences to see Bond at the peak of his career before the character contemplates leaving the spy life.
