A new single-player Star Wars RPG, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, was revealed at The Game Awards. While new Star Wars games are frequently announced, this one generated significant excitement because it’s a spiritual successor to the beloved Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Even more exciting, Casey Hudson, the original director of Knights of the Old Republic and a former BioWare developer, is returning to direct this new installment.
The upcoming game, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, isn’t being created by BioWare – Arcanaut Studios is taking the lead. Players will experience the story through the eyes of a Force user whose choices will determine whether they follow the path of the light or the dark side. While details about how the game will play are still limited, it sounds like it will feature impactful decisions and exciting battles. It’s planned for release on consoles and PC, but development is still in its early stages, meaning it could be a while before it’s available.
Casey Hudson, Game Director at Arcanaut Studios, shared that working on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was a career highlight. He explained that Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will feature a brand new story, building on everything the team has learned, and focusing on themes of choice, destiny, and the classic battle between good and evil. He expressed his excitement about partnering with Lucasfilm Games again, calling it a dream come true.
This is a brand new Star Wars story, taking place during the Old Republic period. Because it’s an original tale, you shouldn’t expect to see a lot of characters you already know. This announcement also follows reports that a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 is being developed.
As a huge Star Wars fan, I was so excited to hear about Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic! Lucasfilm Games’ Douglas Reilly said they’re diving into a brand new story set in the Old Republic – a period of the Star Wars universe we all love. Apparently, the team at Arcanaut Studios is just as passionate about this galaxy as we are, and they’ve got a really inspiring plan for the narrative. They seem confident fans are going to love what’s coming, and honestly, I can’t wait to find out more!
The remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1, first announced in 2021, is still in development. It’s currently unknown whether this remake will connect to the other new Star Wars game, or if they’ll be separate experiences. While different development teams are handling each game, Disney might want to find a way to link them together.
