Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will launch with 20 playable characters, including a core team of X-Men: Wolverine, Magik, Danger, and Storm. While these mutant heroes are confirmed, rumors indicate even more X-Men characters could join the lineup. With so many characters originating from the X-Men universe, some players might find the overall character selection less diverse than anticipated.
The trailer for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls showed off the X-Men and suggests the game will feature five main leaders: Storm, Ghost Rider, Captain America, Doctor Doom, and Spider-Man. It looks like each leader will command a team made up of both familiar characters and new fighters, potentially based on a specific theme. While we can imagine Captain America leading the Avengers and Doctor Doom assembling a villainous squad, the structure of these teams – aside from the X-Men – is still a mystery.
Magneto & Scarlet Witch Are Leaked Main Roster Characters For Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls

A leaked pre-order page from a Bulgarian retailer revealed new details about the upcoming Marvel fighting game, Tōkon: Fighting Souls, before any official announcement. While the page was quickly removed, the information it contained is still intriguing. According to the leak, Magneto and Scarlet Witch will be playable characters from the start, as core members of different teams, rather than being added later as downloadable content.
While the leaks haven’t revealed which sides Magneto and Scarlet Witch will be on, there are some likely possibilities. Many fans have asked for Magneto to be included in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and his history in Marvel vs Capcom games makes him a predictable choice. Scarlet Witch, however, is new to the fighting game scene; she’s appeared in games like Marvel Rivals, but this genre is known for featuring a lot of X-Men characters, and she’s never been a part of it before.
Recent leaks revealed potential new arenas for the fighting game, like Wakanda, Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum, and the X-Men’s Hellfire Gala. While it’s uncertain if these leaks are accurate, the characters and locations are popular enough to likely appear in the game. Although no gameplay footage of Magneto or Scarlet Witch was shown, they – or one of the leaked stages – could be featured in a future promotional trailer.
Existing Team Leadership Teased Earlier Support Both Fighters Being Included In The Game

Team composition in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls presents a choice: either separate Magneto and Scarlet Witch into different groups, or team them up with another character. Considering Magneto’s history as the leader of the Brotherhood of Mutants – enemies of the X-Men – he could logically join Doctor Doom’s team. Conversely, Scarlet Witch’s antagonistic relationship with the X-Men, particularly during the famous “No More Mutants” storyline, suggests she could be paired with her father.
Scarlet Witch’s powerful and unpredictable chaos magic also opens up possibilities for her to take on other roles within the Marvel Universe. For example, with Ghost Rider possibly assembling a team called the Midnight Suns, Scarlet Witch could become a member. The Midnight Suns are typically a group of heroes – including characters like Doctor Strange, Blade, and even Morbius – who fight against supernatural dangers.
Over Abundance Of Characters From One Side Of Marvel Limits Other Interesting Additions

A major concern with adding Magneto and Scarlet Witch as regular playable characters is that they feel like just more fighters from the X-Men. While the X-Men boast a wide range of popular characters that fans want to see in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls – like Cyclops, Rogue, Gambit, and Nightcrawler – a good fighting game needs a balanced roster and shouldn’t rely too heavily on characters from a single team.
When choosing team members, it wouldn’t be ideal if Captain America’s team only included heroes who used to be X-Men. Likewise, while adding Ice Man to Spider-Man’s team makes logical sense, it limits the chance to include other Spider-Man related characters like Venom or Miles Morales. The recent additions of lesser-known characters in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls – like Danger on the X-Men – already represent a deep dive into the roster, making choices like Scarlet Witch and Magneto feel a bit predictable.
Ideally, the game should add the Chaos Magician and Master of Magnetism as the last characters before releasing any downloadable content. This would then open the door for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls to include a wider range of Marvel characters – even those who haven’t been playable in games before – and really stand out as one of the year’s most anticipated fighting games.
