For the past fifteen years, Disney has successfully been turning its classic animated films into live-action movies, creating a lucrative trend and earning billions of dollars. These remakes have generally focused on older titles, giving new life to films like Aladdin, The Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast. Now, Disney is taking a different approach by remaking Moana, a more recent film that is still popular and receiving sequels, to see how audiences respond.
Disney has released the first trailer for the upcoming live-action Moana movie, two years after it was first announced. Dwayne Johnson returns as the demigod Maui, and we get a quick look at him in the trailer. Catherine Lagaʻaia will play Moana, taking over the role from Auliʻi Cravalho, who originally voiced the character in the animated films and Ralph Breaks the Internet. You can watch the trailer below!
