Okay, so get this – a brand new game is coming to PS5 and PC, and it’s a sequel to a series I honestly thought was lost to time! It originally appeared on the PSP, and the last game came out way back in 2006. What’s really wild is that last game was only released in Japan, so nobody outside of Japan really knew about it. It’s totally out of the blue, and I can’t believe they’re bringing this series back after all these years – it was pretty obscure to begin with!
Chime Corporation and Good Smile Company have teamed up to create a new 3D action game called Patlabor the Case Files for PlayStation 5 and PC. While the game is confirmed for those platforms, a release date hasn’t been announced yet. Patlabor, also known as Mobile Police Patlabor, is a classic Japanese mecha series that first debuted in 1988. Though it wasn’t hugely popular outside of Japan, it was a major hit there, inspiring a manga, TV show, multiple movies, and various video games.
New PS5 Console Exclusive Game
The game will allow players to experience memorable moments from the series as a 3D action game. The story centers around “Labors,” robots commonly used in construction and other industries. With a rise in crimes involving these robots, the police have created a special unit called the Patlabor – the Special Vehicle Section 2 Patrol Labor Squadron – to combat the threat.
The game lets you experience the story from two sides: you’ll primarily play as the Patlabor team during main missions, but you can also take control of their opponents in side missions. There are 20 different Labors you can pilot, and a special “Simulator Mode” allows you to hone your skills in shooting and Labor battles.
Based on the trailer, this seems like a low-budget film mainly for dedicated, longtime fans of the series. However, it will likely be exactly what some viewers have been hoping for.
