A recent report reveals that almost half of American children intend to ask for virtual game money – like coins or gems – as gifts this Christmas, highlighting how popular gaming has become.
A recent survey by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) of over 700 children found that almost 60% of them want a video game or gaming-related item as a gift this holiday season.
43 per cent would like in-game currency, presumably for games such as Fortnite and Roblox.
I was looking at the latest stats about what kids want for Christmas, and it’s pretty clear what’s popular! Almost 39% of them are hoping for a game console, and just a little bit less – 37% – would love to find physical games wrapped up under the tree. It seems like gaming is still a huge hit!
The survey included over a thousand adults, and it found that about a third of them intend to give video games as Christmas presents.
The ESA conducts this survey every year, and it’s helpful to compare the current findings with those from past surveys.
Our 2023 survey showed that fewer children were interested in virtual game money compared to previous years. Interestingly, fewer also intended to ask for traditional, physical games.
Wow, it’s really interesting to see how much kids want things for games now, instead of the games themselves! I’m noticing more and more kids asking for things like V-Bucks – those in-game currencies – instead of actual game discs. It’s a pretty big shift, honestly!
