With excitement building for the forthcoming Resident Evil film, director Zach Cregger has hinted that the movie’s storyline might deviate from the narrative presented in the games. In a recent conversation, Cregger, known for his contributions to 2022’s Barbarian, divulged some insights into his ideas for the reboot, elaborating on his vision for the film’s structure.
Zach Cregger says his Resident Evil movie may not be ‘obedient to the lore of the games’
In a recent chat, the actor/director mentioned that he isn’t aiming to create a film that closely follows the ‘storyline’ or ‘universe’ established in the Resident Evil video games.
In a chat with SFX Magazine, Zach Cregger admitted that since the video game series is quite popular, his upcoming movie might encounter criticism from fans, irrespective of its quality.
The new director of the Resident Evil movie expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m a massive fan of the Resident Evil game series. I’ve played every installment multiple times. I can’t count how many times I’ve replayed RE4 alone. It’s my favorite. I should clarify that I’m not aiming to strictly adhere to the games’ lore in our movie.” (via GamesRadar+)
Afterwards, Cregger elaborated on his strategy for the reboot, stating, “I aim to convey a narrative that truly resonates with the feel of playing the games. I don’t believe I’m violating any significant guidelines, but I also understand that there will always be those who criticize my decisions online.
Despite any reservations or doubts, Zach Cregger remains optimistic about the Resident Evil film he’s working on. He shared, “My main goal is simply to create a fantastic movie and narrate an intriguing story. I have confidence that I will be pleased with the final product, and I hope others share my enthusiasm as well.
Mark my words, folks! Though the movie’s name remains undisclosed as of now, Sony Pictures has set the stage for its grand premiere on September 18, 2026. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates about this highly anticipated cinematic journey! (ComingSoon)
